Charles Edward Taft was born December 7, 1952 in Pitt County to the late Clarence and Mary Pitt Taft.  He departed this life on April 20, 2021 at home surrounded by family and friends.  He attended and graduated from J.H. Rose High School.  

Charles worked at A.B. Whitley for several years, and at Pitt Memorial Hospital for twenty five years where he retired.  He also worked at McGowan until his health declined.  He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, family and friends but he also loved fishing. He received Jesus Christ at an early age,  and became a member of Rock Spring Free Will Baptist Church where he was an Usher.


Charles was preceded by his father, Clarence Taft, Sr.; his mother, Mary Pitt Taft; his brothers, Roosevelt Taft and Clarence Taft, Jr.; niece, Dutchess Taft and a nephew, Tyrone Taft.


Charles is survived by his loving wife, Lucinda Gibbs Taft, sons, Brian Dupree (Danielle), Danielle Dupree both of Greenville, NC and Charles Graham, Jr. of Woodbridge, VA.; daughters, Anestacia Evans (Jermaine) of Springfield, VA; LaShunda Gibbs and Cierra Moore of Greenville, NC and Meleka Sherrod of Knightdale, NC.; eleven grandchildren; one sister Patricia Taft Atkins (Alton) of Greenville, NC; aunt, Annie Wade of Greenville, NC uncle, Edward Pitt of Raeford, NC; mother in law Gloria Gibbs of Greenville, NC; sister in law, Joyce Batts Taft of Charlotte, NC;  special devoted friends Tim Colman and James Earl Jones and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.  Two special cousins Bobby Gorhams and Johnny Pitt.
