Charles Thomason Obituary

Charles "Chas" Stehmeier Thomason

Greenville - Charles "Chas" Stehmeier Thomason, of Greenville, SC, passed away on Wednesday, April 28 at age 26.

Chas was born in Greenville on November 21, 1994 to Dr. Mack and Cheree Thomason. He attended Christ Church Episcopal School from Primer until he graduated in 2013. While at CCES he played varsity basketball and soccer.

After high school, Chas attended Clemson University where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and majored in Business Management with an Entrepreneurship Emphasis. He was an avid Clemson football fan and attended every game he could. Stemming from his childhood summers spent on the pier at Pawley's Island, Chas developed a passion for fishing and was happiest at the nearest river or lake with a line in the water. During college, Chas found that he excelled in sales and poured himself into his jobs at Cutco and Palmetto Moon. After school, Chas combined his passion for fishing and his love of sales by working in the fishing department at Cabela's, and later Academy Sports.

Chas will be remembered by his family and friends for his charming personality, his infectious sense of humor, and his beautiful smile. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Chas was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church where he and his family attended until 2002. Since 2002 they have been members of First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his parents, Mack and Cheree Thomason; his brother McKee Thomason of Portland, OR; his sister Katie Thomason of Greenville, SC; and his maternal grandparents Herman and Marilyn Stehmeier of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by several uncles and aunts as well as eleven first cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Dr. Bob and Ruth Thomason of Greenville; his uncles Jim Thomason and Dr. Earle Russell of Greenville; and his uncle Dr. Bo Kimsey of Duluth, GA.

The family would like to thank many in the recovery world who helped Chas during his journey. A special thanks to David McNease at Greenville Transitions and Marc Burrows at Carolina Wellness and Recovery Center for their love and support. The family would also like to thank FAVOR Greenville, Hope for Families Recovery Center, and Safety Net.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 1 from 9:30 am until 10:45 am in the Parlor at First Presbyterian Church, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am in the church sanctuary. COVID protocols will be followed with mask requirements and social distancing. A private burial service will be held on Sunday, May 2 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorials be made to Christ Church Episcopal School, in support of substance abuse prevention, 245 Cavalier Dr, Greenville, SC 29607, or FAVOR Greenville, 355 Woodruff Rd #303, Greenville, SC 29607.

Praying for the family. I worked with Chas at Palmetto Moon and he was great to work with and always had a smile on his face and didn't meet a stranger. Rest on Chas

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. It was a pleasure working with you at cabelas.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends & family of Chas. Working with him at Cabelas was so much fun. He always had a smile on his face & would bring one to yours no matter how bad of a day you were having. He made sure to let you know he was present and he always had jokes or a hug depended on which one you. He will forever be the reason why I love Chipotle. He bought me my first ever meal just because so said I’ve never ate there before. He will truly be missed. Such a beautiful soul taken way too soon. ❤
