I had the distinct pleasure of knowing Charles and working with him for many years. Few will know the extent of his private generosity and desire to remain anonymous.
There are people who stand out in our experiences. Charles was one of them.

For such a small statue, He was such a big man. Charles was a gift to all of us. His heart was so big, His mind was so powerful, His giving was endless.

Charles Tice is the most decent and honorable man I have ever known. He had a very strong sense of good and bad, right and wrong. He spent his life aligning himself with all things that were good and right. That is why we find Charles' name associated with all the good things that have happened in Sussex during his lifetime. For example, Charles joined the community College movement in the early 1980's and he ardently stuck with his commitment throughout all those years of difficult growth and development at the college. But Charles was eventually rewarded. The College matured and grew dramatically, serving thousands of County residents with their higher education needs.By the end of the 1980's the college was being described as "the greatest gift to Sussex County". Charles would only say, "It was the right thing to do". Charles was bright, astute, full of wisdom and wise. He was easy to talk to and was a careful listener. When he spoke he always had a useful answer. That is why almost every organization that Charles was invited to join, wanted him to serve as their Chair or President. Charles was generous and smartly philanthropic. Sussex County lost a community Icon, who sadly many even didn't know. He worked for Selective Insurance and became the Master of Wall Street, making countless amounts of money for his beloved employer. Without a doubt, he will be missed A great man, who achieved a great deal in his life. Bill Connor
