Not sure what to say?

Thank you everyone for your kind words.

Charlie's influence on me was immense; he was the only person I know who liked to talk about animals as much as I do.

He taught me how to apply justice and respect in everyday life. He was a constant, steady force in my life, an anchor for my brother and I.

My heart is broken and I will miss him everyday.

I can only hope to honor him with my life.

Thank you Grandpa Char for sharing your life, love, and legacy with us. Your smile and stories will be forever missed. Look down on us, and help guide our paths (and if you can, help the Giants - although sometimes that might be a tall order).

You were a fine man, and it was a privilege to know you.

All our love,

Chip (and Colleen, Rocco, and Sydney)

I first met the Vanasses in 1984, when they hired me to clean the windows at the Hayes home in Oakmont, as they were executors of the Hayes will. They then asked me to come to their home in Forestvelle to work. I always enjoyed going there and chatting with them while I worked. Actually Charlie was doing most of the chatting, but soon I'd hear Mrs. V say, "come on Charlie' and direct him downstairs.
When Mrs.V started getting ill, I offered my help and told Charlie to call me if he...

Grandpa Char will be missed! I will always remember his funny stories and comical way of life. What a sense of humor, and a beautiful man!

Tutu, Jim and I will remember "Grandpa Char" as a kind man, much loved and admired. Our Faith assures us he now resides in Heaven. For that we rejoice!
Char will also be remembered for his quick wit. (No one could tell a story quite like Charlie!) But Char's true legacy far surpasses that of his quirky wit. He will always be admired for lovingly caring for his wife, Ricci, who suffered with Alzheimer's.
In "The Four Loves", a book by C.S. Lewis, the author defines the highest...

Our deepest condolences to Chuck, Jana and family. Molly, Isaiah and I will deeply miss "Grandpa Char" and his wonderful stories. I often found myself sitting there, daydreaming, trying to re-create the scene as Grandpa Char talked about his hockey days in Michigan or his days in the military, etc.. He had an uncanny ability to make you laugh with his very quick wit and light-hearted personality.
Recently, Molly, Isaiah and I visited Char and were amazed at how "up" he was on current...

Charlie was my uncle. Even though we lived many miles apart we always stayed in touch. We looked forward to our visits to his home on California Street in San Francisco Street and later, in Forestville. His great sense of humor and upbeat spirit were an inspiration to all. He will be missed by all who had the priviledge to know him.
