Hi Grandpa!

Best boss I ever had. It was 1961 and I was an Ensign and he was an LOD lieutenant.

Chuck,
I just heard of your passing. I am deeply saddened...as I cherished our time together at the submarine convention in Reno a few years ago. I too enjoyed touring the site of Custers Last Stand.

Thank you again for your service and profound sacrifices during WW II. I promise you that if I am ever to get a second edition out of my book, that I will do everything in my power to get more of your story into it. It is a story that ought to be told and remembered.

Charles "Chuck" Henry Ver Valin - MoMM2(SS) - (10/24/1921-11/24/2009)

Chuck, Thank You for Your Dedicated Service to Our Country, and For Your Ability and Strengths, to Survive, the Japanese Prisoner of War Camps, during WWII.

We will all certainly miss your bright and cheery "smile" and "presence," at our Mare Island Base Luncheon Meetings {And particularly the Special Desserts, which You shared with Us}!

Gwendoline, Our deepest Condolences, to you and the Entire Ver Valin Family, and our thoughts and prayers are with you during this...
