Not sure what to say?

What a kind, sweet man! He was my band director from 1965 through 1967; made a shy girl from a small town feel a part of a much larger school. My condolences to his family.

The Vickers Family

An awesome man to remember, inspiring to many! Your family is in my prayers, Wendy Ashcraft Cochrane (Pittman & HHS)

A wonderful person musician, teacher and mentor to me. He helped prepare me for a life long career in music which i never expected. I also respected him for being a good family man which is more important than being a good musician. Approximately 10 or so years ago I had a meeting at The Club in B'ham and got to sit in on the keyboards with him and Charles Hulgan. It was much fun and a memory I want forget. Prayer to the family as you celebrate his life.

What a wonderful encouraging band director who brought joy to his students.Judd and Ron Shuff went on to be band directors and choir directors in churches. He taught us how to share music, Mrs. Vickers, may God encourage you during this time. Blessings to you. Sharon Sewell

Mr. Vickers' legacy will continue for many generations - he taught me private trumpet lessons til by lips had to be picked up off the floor. Will never forget 1969 at Gilmore Stadium, halftime, lights went out and the band played "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," with lights on their shoes, forming a huge clock with moving hands! Such a creative and caring person whose memory and talents we will always cherish.

Dear Chipper,
My mom died March 4, 1994.
My sister was a a student of your dad. She was Lynn Keith.
Lynn went to the lord in 1971, a beautiful, flute player for the gopher band.
Your dad was an awesome teacher, father, person. He raised you well, as you were always a good friend & fellow band member, polite, & honorable. I am so glad that you had your dad for so long& that he is now in peace, waiting for who believe, will soon be reunited. God bless you, chipper.

Death can never erase our memories of his great contributions of love to so many others. May he inspire us all to do the same.

Mr. Vickers was the band director when I was in the Hueytown Elementary School band and the Hueytown High School band. I also sang in the Hueytown First Methodist Church choir under his direction. "Chuck" was a kind, gentle man who enriched the world greatly with his musicality, and he will be remembered with loving gratitude.
