Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Asbury United Methodist Church for Charles Edward Wagner, 86, who passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Reverend Ira Robinson, Associate Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church, will conduct the funeral services.
Interment will take place in Parsons City Cemetery in West Virginia. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
Charles Edward Wagner was born near Parsons, West Virginia, the youngest of seven children. His parents were Charlotte Jane Phillips Wagner and Cary Edward Wagner. His brothers were Albert, Wilbur, and Francis. His sisters were Marie, Virginia, and Marguerite. Charles graduated from high school in 1939 and joined the Army in Baltimore, Maryland at Holabird Quartermaster Depot. His last station was in Louisiana with the 874th airborne engineering battalion. It was here that he was injured and discharged in 1944.
Charles was active in many areas of the community in Lafayette. When Diamond Crystal Salt ceased operations at Jefferson Island in Louisiana, he accepted a position as Director of Personnel at Lafayette General Medical Center. He was president of the Louisiana Manufacturer's Association and president of the Lafayette Parish Personnel Association and was Commodore of the Mardi Gras Krewe of Zeus. He was also active in church work, serving as chairman of the building committee, chairman of the board, chairman of the trustees and treasurer of the Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife Marian E. Wagner of Lafayette; two daughters, Dawn Wolf and her husband, Ronald of Youngsville, and Paula Peterson of Flint, Michigan; one son, Charles K. Wagner, M.D. and his wife, Polly S. of Piney Flats, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Thomas Wolf, and Matthew Wolf and his wife, Emily; and one great grandson, Seth Wolf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed Friday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and continue Saturday from 9:00 am until time of service.
