Largo, FL – Charles H. Weaver, 83 formerly of West Springfield died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at home.  Charlie was born in North Whitefield, ME., the son of the late Osborne and Luetta (Storer) Weaver.  He was the Class President and 1956 graduate of Cony High School in Augusta, ME.  He went on to graduate from the University of Maine Orono in 1961.  In 1962, Charlie enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Massey as a Lieutenant Junior Grade until his discharge in 1967.  A retired 30-year Regional Representative of the Social Security Administration in Boston, finishing his career in the Holyoke Office in 1995. Charlie lived in West Springfield for many years, and was a resident of Largo, FL since 2007 and spent summers in Readfield, ME. Charlie was a 62-year member of the Masons, a 33rd Degree Mason, Past Potentate of Melha Shriners in 1997 and Director of the Shriner’s Hospital in Springfield. He was a member of the Mittineague Congregational Church in West Springfield and St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Largo Florida. He also served as International Director of Jaycees, was very active with the Lions Club in West Springfield and on the Board of Directors at Fairway Village in Largo Fla. He was also a board member at Mass Elder Care.  Charlie enjoyed singing with the Dan Kane Singers.  He also organized many reunions throughout the country for his shipmates on the U.S.S. Massey. Charlie and Jean loved to travel and spend time with their family and countless friends, however, their favorite spot was their cottage on Maranacook Lake in Maine, where the family has gathered since 1972. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend of 58 years Jean (Young) Weaver; a son Andrew and his wife Angela; a daughter Elizabeth Hastings; daughter-in-law Melanie Weaver; son-in-law Mark Hank; seven grandchildren Benjamin, Ryan, Emily, Josh, Jake Weaver, Sara and Zack Hank and a great granddaughter Paisleigh Wilson.  He also leaves a sister-in-law Carolyn Purrington and his exchange student “son” Rolf Kratz and his wife Antje and their children Jan and Robert of Dusseldorf Germany.  Charlie was predeceased by his son Michael Weaver, daughter Linda Hank and son-in-law Glenn Hastings.  The funeral will be held Tuesday 11:00am at Mittineague Congregational church, 1840 Westfield St, West Springfield, MA (Please meet at the church) followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Monday from 4:00 – 7:00pm.  For more information and online condolences please visit curranjones.com.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.

Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.... So sorry to hear Mrs. Weaver, Beth & Andy of your husband/dad's passing. Jeanne....John and I were on our way to the U.S.S. Massey reunion in Buffalo when we learned of Charlie´s passing. We remember fondly our years with you in Newport. Charlie was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. We send our love to you and your family. Lynne and John Bertram
