Charles William Welby

I had known Dr. Chuck Welby since I joined the former Department of Geosciences in the fall of 1976. I interacted with him during faculty meetings and departmental seminars. I enjoyed talking to him and listening to his extensive experience in geology. My last contact with him was several years ago when he moved closer to one of his children. He will be greatly missed. Chuck Welby was an extraordinary man who contributed enormously to the education of students at NCSU for decades. It was always a genuine pleasure to meet him at GSA meetings long after my graduation. He will be missed, but he has left an indelible legacy.
