WENDT, Charles Gustav, 75, of Iowa City, formerly of Richmond, died July 29 in Kalona. Funeral services and burial were held August 2, 2011 in Iowa City, Iowa. Charles was born April 29, 1936 in Richmond, Va. He was a graduate of The Juilliard School, New York and Indiana University, Bloomington. He was a student of Fritz Magg and Luigi Silva. He moved to Iowa City in 1966. Charles was Professor of Cello at the University of Iowa School of Music for 34 years and was a member of the Stradivari Quartet at University of Iowa. Survivors include his daughter, Natasha Wendt (Matthew Olson) of Iowa City; and his son, Eric Wendt (Staci) of Philadelphia; and grandson, Henry; brothers, William (Hope) Wendt of Pinehurst, N.C., and Don (Dorothy) Wendt of Waterloo; and former wife, Kay Braverman of Iowa City. In death he joins his parents, Frank Gustav Wendt and Grace Starr Wendt; and stepmother, Virginia Quarles Wendt; his brother, Frank Starr Wendt; and several beloved kitties. Just saw this obiturary of my brother on the Internet. I was able to go to the Memorial service in Iowa and actually saw him about a month before in Iowa. It was hard to lose him. He was a great cellist and a great friend. Bill Wendt
