A Odd Coincidence...

The Sunday of 11/6/2011, I was to go to a play done by the " 'Off Monroe' Players"(who acquired their name originally due to being located off Monroe Avenue) with a past co-worker/friend who lives off Monroe Avenue and was a 'no show' picking me up where I live, also off Monroe Avenue. I read later that Charlie of Westfall Florists who went to "Monroe High School" with my Father passed on, on this day also.
My friend (who forgot about the play)and I...

I think of Mr. Westfall as the neighborhood florist. I grew up on Crawford St. and went to No. 24 School and Monroe High with his girls. I was closest in age to Cynthia and we were in girl scouts together. Whenever my mother needed to send flowers, she always went to Westfall's and she still went there long after she moved out of the neighborhood in 1986. Mr. Westfall was such a nice man and a wonderful presence in the neighborhood and a great example of how a man should conduct his business.

I too grew up in the neighborhood (Linden Street) and Charlie was certainly one of our treasures! In the store he was always so helpful and fun to visit with. May he rest in peace.

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of the Westfall family.

Mt. Hope neighborhood has lost one of it's greatest! My father's childhood neighborhood and later thru life, and a friend of Charlie's, they went to Monroe High together, both served in the South Pacific in WWII, Westfall, was our family's florist including my wedding flowers. One of my most recent conversations with Charlie was his referral to me to Marlow Orchids, I needed a WWII Era corsage Orchid for a Remembrance Service for my Dad and Mom at White Haven...

When my grandfather died, many, many years ago, Mr. Westfall was kind enough to pick up my grandmother every weekend and take her to Mt. Hope Cemetery to his grave as she did not drive. He did this for her until she was too frail to make the trip, and when she died, it was Mr. Westfall that decorated her grave. His caring and compassion for all he knew and respect for families in their time of need was awe inspiring. He made a difference, and he will be missed. Rest in eternal peace, and...

J.Brendan Finucane gives his sincere sympathy for you loss. His family lived on May Street down from the your Flower shop. I am now 67 years old and live in Byron NY. My mother and father along with my Grandmother and Aunt, my sister and brother all knew of your family. Sorry for your loss.

Emily and children, My sincere sympathy for your loss. Charles was a dear friend and even though I moved to Maryland 46 yrs ago, we had a pleasant phone relationship for years. And he took good care of my flower needs from afar. The Westfall family still holds a special place in my memory bank. The very first policy I wrote was on baby Neva Grace. I will always treasure the friendship I had with that wonderful man.Peace.
