Charles W. "Charlie" Wilmarth Sr.

Charles W. “Charlie” Wilmarth, Sr., 89, of Peck Street, Attleboro and Prudence Island, Rhode Island, died on Friday, March 21, 2003 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro where he had been a patient for the past two years. He was the husband of Barbara (Kenerson) Wilmarth to whom he was married on December 11, 1940.

Born in Somerville, Massachusetts on July 7, 1913, he was a son of the late Harry T. and Eleanor (Lillibridge) Wilmarth. He moved to Attleboro as a young child and resided in the city for more than 85 years. He was a 1931 graduate of Attleboro High School.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from Boston University in 1935.

Mr. Wilmarth was employed by Swank, Inc. in Attleboro for more than 40 years prior to his retirement in 1980. At the company he held a number of positions and was the assistant purchasing agent at the time of his retirement.

He was a volunteer member of the former State Guard, now the National Guard.

Mr. Wilmarth was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Attleboro where he held a number of volunteer positions including trustee and church treasurer. He was also a member of the former church cribbage club, the former church men’s club and the Tri-M club.

As a Masonic brother, he was a life member of the Ezekiel Bates Lodge in Attleboro. He was associated with the Boy Scouts – Troop 30 in Attleboro for many years and had served on the Anawan Council of Boy Scouts.

He was a member of the board of directors of the Daggett-Crandall Nursing Home in Norton. Mr. Wilmarth was a devoted sports enthusiast and was a fan of the former Boston Braves and in recent years was a fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.

In addition to his wife of almost 63 years, he leaves a daughter: Barbara A. Potter of Woolwich, Maine; two sons: Charles W. Wilmarth, Jr. of West Warwick, Rhode Island and John T. Wilmarth of Chula Vista, California; three grandchildren: Kenneth M. Wilmarth of Wakefield, RI; Deborah P. Cashman of West Bath, Maine and Matthew D. Potter of Cambridge, MA; a great granddaughter: Molly S. Cashman of West Bath, Maine and two nephews and a niece.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Funeral Service on Thursday, March 27, 2003 at 2:00 PM in the Centenary United Methodist Church, 39 North Main Street, Attleboro, with the Rev. Garvin C. Warden, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the “Commonwealth Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

A Masonic service conducted by Ezekiel Bates Lodge will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at 7:00 PM in the “Commonwealth Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
