Darrell Turnipseed Class of 1980 Mrs. Polk left a lasting impact on the Southside High School community from my years at SSHS (1977 to 1980) As a dedicated teacher, she touched the lives of countless students with her unwavering commitment and genuine care. Mrs. Polk´s influence extended beyond academics; she was a role model of kindness and integrity, shaping the...

Class of 1972

Mrs. Polk impacted the lives of the SSHS Class of 1972. She was a mentor and role model. Most of all, she believed in us and taught us to strive for excellence.

Some of her vocal training is still present. I will treasure the musical skillset for training singers at Southside High School. Rest in Jesus Mrs. Polk.

Mrs. Charlotte Polk will be missed and her strategies for success will always be remembered. Her favorite motto to our SouthSide Scrappers was"Prior preparation prevents poor performance. The General was a great teacher and person.

I am a student who loved this dynamic, talented woman. Southside High (1969-1971). Because of her, I yet sing and from her teaching of music, I learned to play the piano. I can still hear her beautiful voice. Prayers for her family, students, and all who loved this amazing vocalist.

I was a student of Mrs Polk. I was also a member of the glee club under her directions. She was dedicated. I never heard her raise her voice. It is so nice to have those memories. Blessings to her family. Rest in peace, my ms Brooks.

I will never ever forget Soror Charlotte! She spent many nights teaching us our Delta hymn. I absolutely loved singing in Delta Voices under her direction, while living in Memphis. Everyone knew when she entered the room, she always walked with her head held high. Small in stature but her presence commanded your attention!! She had a keen ear, so you couldn't sing out of key because she had a look that would cut ya lol!! Oh and you always knew when the harmony was on point because she'd get...

To the Polk and Brooks Family,
I am saddened to hear of Mrs. Polk's call to Glory. You have my deepest sympathy during this difficult time. May God grant you Comfort, Peace, Healing, Strength, and Understanding. Mrs. Polk was one of our Senior Advisors of the Carver '65 Class. I also played with her as the pianist when she was the organist at Martin Temple during the late 60's. She was a joy and mentor to have worked with. Your Family remains in my thoughts and prayers.

I remember Mrs. Charlotte B. Polk. She was my music teacher at Porter Jr. High School, as a model of excellence and high standards. She taught us how to compete with integrity, hard work, and diligence. She was short in statue; however, she was a giant in public school music, second to none. My most sincere and heartfelt condolences to her family.
