Chauncey was an inspiration, mentor and friend since I first met him when I was in high school. He interviewed me as part of his work for the State Department's preparation for the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. He was the epitome of a scholar and teacher who truly cared about his students. He was a public servant through his many and varied philanthropic activities. I met and spent many good times with Chauncey when he was Pres of the CUSC and the office was across the street on W 115th from me... We were both Columbia 'loyalists' with wide-ranging interests.
