Corridan Funeral Home - Chicopee Obituary

Westfield- Cheryl L. (Bates) Benson, 70, passed away on March 5, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer.  Born in Westfield on March 3, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Allen S. and Shirley C. (Holt) Bates.  She was a graduate of Westfield High School and had previously worked as an administrative assistant for Baystate Moving Company.  Cheryl loved being outdoors, often walking AROUND Stanley Park or riding her bike on the local trails.  She had a contagious laugh and smile, and was always there to lend a helping hand.  Rarely without a pet at home, Cheryl had a love for animals and enjoyed watching the abundant wildlife in her back yard, especially a particular racoon and squirrel.  At holiday gatherings, Cheryl always made a fantastic meal for everyone, complete with her famous fudge.  She also enjoyed going to concerts, dinner and dancing with friends, and day trips to the beach and Foxwoods.  In addition to her parents, Cheryl was also predeceased by her husband, Thomas F. Benson, in 2018, and a brother-in-law, William Sienkiewicz.  She is survived by her brother, Michael Bates and his wife, Nancy, of Westfield, as well as her sisters, Kathleen Zygmont and her husband, Rick, of Southampton and Christine Sienkiewicz, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.  A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 in Calvary Cemetery, Chicopee, at 10:00am.  Corridan Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Janet so sorry for the loss of your sister in law Cheryl. I know she enjoyed being with you on your trips to the beach. May she rest in peace no longer in pain and happy in Tommy´s arms. My sincere condolences.

I am heartbroken, Cheryl and I were constant companions throughout high school, walking to school, then driving every day. She brightened my day, everyday. Rest in Peace, my friend. I will always love you.
