Byles Memorial Home - New London Obituary

CHRISTINE M. KOWALSKI, age 52, of Gales Ferry, passed away on March 1, 2024, at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT.

Born on February 8, 1972, she was the daughter of John “Jack” and Bernadette “Bunny” Wiecezak Edwards, also of Gales Ferry.

Christine was a proud graduate of Ledyard High School, class of 1991. Following her graduation, she earned an associate degree from the University of New Haven. Her career journey led her to Pfizer in Groton, CT, where she dedicated many years of service as a lead administrative assistant. Her professionalism and warmth significantly impacted her colleagues and the company, leaving a lasting legacy of her dedication and kindness.

Beyond her professional achievements, Christine was a devoted mother, a loving daughter, and a loyal sister. Known for her generous spirit, Christine’s presence was a gift to those who knew her, always enriching their lives with joy, compassion, and understanding. She particularly cherished spending time with—and living life through—her beloved children, whether that meant attending their athletic events over the years or volunteering whenever the need arose. Christine also enjoyed the serenity of taking long walks at UConn-Avery Point’s beautiful waterfront campus, tending to her garden, and sharing laughs with her longtime friends.

She is survived by her two sons, Jordan J. Kowalski of Wallingford, CT, and Leo J. Kowalski of Waltham, MA; a daughter, Emily K. Kowalski of Niantic; her three brothers, John (Kristin) Edwards of Michigan, Robert (Stephanie) Edwards of Waterford, Kevin Edwards of Groton; niece Chloe Edwards; and nephew, Andrew Edwards. She was predeceased by her brother, David (Lynn) Edwards; and ex-husband and father to her children, Jason Kowalski.

Although the loss of Christine leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her, her spirit and legacy will continue to inspire and influence those who knew her. To honor and celebrate her life, visiting hours will be held on March 9, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m  with a prayer service at 11 am at the Byles-MacDougall Funeral Home, located at 99 Huntington St., New London. The family welcomes all who knew Christine to join them in remembering her life and contributions. The family expresses their most profound gratitude for the overwhelming support during this time of grief. They would especially like to acknowledge and thank the professional and skilled doctors and nurses at Hartford Hospital for their exceptional care of Christine in her final days.

Flowers will be accepted or gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Christine Kowalski to support cancer research and patient care online at dana-farber.org/gift, by phone at 800-525-4669, or by mail to: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.

My deepest condolences to Christine's whole family. She was a beautiful. loving kind person and she, Bobby, and my daughter all grew up together and were close friends. The Edwards family were so good to my daughter and just took her in like one of their own when she visited them. I loved Christine and worked with her for a whole year at a lawyer's office. She was so good to me. Love, Rosalie Webber
