It is with deep regret and profound sorrow that we sadly announce the passing of Christine Scott, age 72 of Salter, SC, who died on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the Helms-Gordon Residential Care Home in Fort Lawn, SC.


Funeral services for Christine Scott were held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 308 West Main Street, Kingstree, SC where the Reverend Gerald Bynum, pastor of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church of Salters, SC, will preside and the Reverend Dr. Eddie Gamble, pastor of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Georgetown, SC and Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church of Andrews, SC; also the Vice Moderator of the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Association, will deliver the Words of Comfort and the Interment will follow at the Salters Community Cemetery in Salters, SC.


Public viewing of Christine Scott was held on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 367 Old Gapway Road, Salters, SC.


Life Reflections


Christine (French variation of Christina, meaning Christian) Scott was born in Salters, SC on Monday, April 2, 1951, to the late Jean Elizabeth Scott. She peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Helms-Gordon Residential Care Home in Fort Lawn, SC.


     Christine, affectionately called Chris, grew up in Salters, SC, and attended Williamsburg County Training School now known as C.E. Murray High School. She graduated from Benedict College in Columbia, SC, and received her Bachelor’s in Biology. She began her teaching career at Lane Consolidated Elementary School (presently Lane Head Start) in Lane, SC. She continued her teaching career at Greeleyville Elementary School where she served as the CCC Lab proctor until her retirement. During her tenure there, she served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for Cadette Troop#279.


     Christine was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Salters, SC. She was a very dedicated and active member. She was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and also secretary, and youth choir director. She was also a member of the Dixie-Kingstree Christian Club and the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Association, where she sang in the mass choir and served as the vice president for many years.


     Christine was a member of Mt. Hope Order of Eastern Star Chapter #286 in Greeleyville, SC where she faithfully served for over thirty years.


     Christine was preceded in death by her mother, the late Jean Elizabeth Scott, and her maternal grandparents, Deacon Lawrence McGee and Mrs. Edna Scott McGee. 


     Christine leaves behind to cherish her most precious memories two brothers, Kenneth Scott of Charlotte, NC and Willie Wilson of Clinton, MD; a sister, Laura (William) Foster of Hickory, NC; a nephew, she reared as a son, Kenneth (Monique) Scott II of  Duncan, SC; two nieces she reared as daughters, Mary E. Scott of Atlanta, GA, and Margie (Kendall) Pringle of New Orleans, LA; a niece and a nephew, Stephanie Foster of Conover, NC and William Foster of Granite Falls, NC; four grandnieces: Kaylin Scott, Damita Douglas and Alyssa Douglas, all of Atlanta, GA and Esaria Pringle of New Orleans, LA; one grand nephew, Kristian Scott of Atlanta, GA; one great grand nephew, Bryson Blount of Atlanta, GA; a special sister-in-law, Debra Scott of Kingstree, SC; one godson, Lamont Mack of Salters. SC; two special cousins, Loretta Ross of Falls Church, VA, and Almeria Lacy of Houston, TX; a host of other relatives, several special caretakers, many students, and very dear friends.

Christine and I had a great working relationship working as CCC Lab Proctors for many years. Everytime I visted her lab she always greated me with a smile and a warm welcome.
