Christopher Birch

I knew Chris as Kit at Lewis and Clark High School graduated 1968. Kit was a terrific varsity wrestler and Mark, his best friend and I used to hang out with Kit. He always talked about spending his summers in Alaska mining with his dad. Every year he would grow a little bit bigger. He said he would marry Miss Alaska with such confidence that I couldn't doubt anything he ever said. I'm sorry I didn't get to see him at our 50th reunion and even more sorry his life came to such a tragic...

I worked with Chris at ASCG/WH Pacific and we became friends talking about mining in Alaska, since we both graduated from UAF with Mine Engineering degrees, and Chris is two months older than me. My condolences to his family. Chris was positive and happy 99% of the time. He was a statesman, a great engineer and a pleasure to know him.

He always answered my e mails promptly [I'm not in his district]. He was proud of his engineering background. Positive outlook even in tough times. His best legacy is that those who knew him will really miss him.

I enjoyed following Chris' political career over the years having first met him when he served on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly. He always put citizens first. He was a good listener and was very thoughtful. Most of all, he was a statesman. RIP Chris. Hugs to your family.

Chris and I were study buddies in an Arctic Engineering class we took at UAF in 1975. He was a great guy! RIP.
