Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

CARNEY, Christopher Todd ? of Flint, age 45, died Thursday February 20, 2014 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held 1pm Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the South Baptist Church, 4091 Van Slyke Road, Flint, Pastor Bruce S. Black officiating.

Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation 1-3pm and 5-7pm Sunday and 3-7pm Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. There will be visitation after 11am Tuesday until the time of the service at the church.

Chris was born in Warren, MI on December 2, 1968. He graduated from Lake Fenton High School. He received a Bachelor?s Degree from U of M
Flint and his Master?s Degree from Marygrove College. On June 30, 2001, he married Christy Brown. He enjoyed music, playing the guitar,
the Praise Band at Pathway Church, and organizing programs for kids at church. Chris was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan and loved the comic strip ?peanuts?. Chris was in his 15th year of teaching at Dieck Elementary
in Swartz Creek, where he was known as ?King Carney? and touched the lives of many people.

Surviving are wife, Christy;

children, Grace and Oscar;

mother, Carol (Milo) Moreno;

father, James (Maureen) Carney;

siblings, Nick (Teresa) Carney, Carla (Lyle) Stowe,
Heather Carney, Mario Moreno and Ericka (Jeremy) Lotridge;

many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family appreciates the huge outpouring of support from the Swartz Creek and Surrounding communities.

Chris, we miss you, you were like our second son. Michael, myself and Mr. Fogle talk about you often We laugh about the thinks you and Michael did and got into. Your never forgotten.

Chris think of you often and considered you our second son. Michael just mentioned you two days ago. We all miss you.

I had the amazing opportunity to have Mr. Carney as my 1st grade teacher and he was and forever will be my favorite teacher ever. He made everyone laugh and smile and most of all happy. I also had Mrs.Carney for 3rd grade and she was super amazing as well. My prayers are with the Carney family forever and always. <3

Wanted to express our deepest condolences and sadness for you and your families loss. Chris was such an awesome person and a fabulous teacher to our children. He will very much missed by all who knew him. Forever in our hearts and thoughts. Praying Gods comfort for you all.

Mr. Carney was never my teacher, but I had Mrs. Beckman as my second grade teacher and I can always remember our classes doing fun activities with him and his class. He was a man of many laughs and fun times. He was always so much fun, and always kept his faith and showed his faith in God. He was never one to judge and was always there for anyone who needed support and I can remember crying and he talked to me, there was many times I bumped into him in the hall and he was always smiling, or...

Christy, Grace, and Oliver, we just want you to know how sorry we are for your loss. You have all been so special to us over the years. We go way back to Kayla having Chris as her student teacher and then her first grade teacher. We are so glad we have kept in touch with you over time. Chris was one of the kindest people we have ever met, such a wonderful mentor to his students. Just know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Our Love to you always.
