Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Christopher Miles Carter, age 57, of Maryville, Illinois, passed away on May 29, 2025.

Born in Shirley, Massachusetts, Chris held a degree in history, was a dedicated mail carrier with USPS and a gifted and passionate photographer whose photography work reflected his deep love and respect for animals. Through his lens, he captured the beauty and spirit of wildlife, bringing joy and inspiration to all who viewed his art. He also captured the drama, grace, and emotions of sports in his photography. This was one of his proudest accomplishments, especially when it came to baseball.

Chris had a lifelong passion for sports. He found joy and meaning in moments both great and small, from watching games to capturing iconic scenes through his camera.  He held a deep appreciation for the Cooperstown Hall of Fame, the timeless magic of the Field of Dreams, and the way sports bring people together.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Heather Carter; his cherished daughter, Lualani Carter; his parents, Alan and Marjorie Carter; his brother, Ryan Carter, his sister Amy Carter Brose (Richard) and his adored bearded collie Isabel. Chris’ warmth, creativity, and gentle soul touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Services: A memorial visitation to honor and celebrate Chris’ life will be held at the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Missouri, Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friends may sign the family’s on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Saint Louis Zoo in Christopher's memory-an organization close to his heart.

Not sure what to say?

He was a very nice kind man I’m going to miss him being the very first carrier there every morning smiling and smelling good every morning and cracking jokes sometimes I didn’t get but his really wish I had just one more

Christopher was a kind, sweet person. He was also an immensely talented photographer that shared his talents with everyone. He will be deeply missed. Rest in Heaven, Chris.

I am SO SO very sorry for your loss. This is heart breaking. Heather your family seemed to be so happy and complete. This is devastating news. Prayers for your family navigating through this horrible tragedy.

Alan, Margie and family I am so incredibly sorry to learn of Chris’ passing. It is way too soon. My heart breaks for his daughter and entire family. We lost my sister Lisa suddenly and unexpected last year. It is so hard to process that they’re no longer with us. Life for you will never be the same. However, remembering what an amazing Son, husband, father, brother, nephew and friend to all that we’re blessed to have met him. I will be praying for the family’s peace. Alan I’m here if you ever...
