Broomhead Funeral Home - Riverton Obituary

Chris — son, brother, husband, dad, uncle, cousin, and friend — passed away unexpectedly on June 15th, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Chris was born February 1, 1983 in West Valley City, Utah, to Michael Lynn Earl and Deborah Sue Tomoff Earl. He grew up in South Jordan, Utah and attended Copperhills High school where he was on the football team. He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Urban Planning.

Chris met his wife Elise in 2002. They married in 2005 and welcomed their daughter Tegan in 2009. He loved his wife and loved being a father. Tegan was the light of his life and he loved supporting her in her education, art, dance, and playing video games together.

Chris began his career with Salt Lake City twelve years ago with the Fleet department. He later worked in Code Enforcement until he was able to follow his passion as a Principal Planner. Chris enjoyed and cared about the work he did with the City. He loved his Salt Lake City work family as well as the community he served.

He is survived by his wife Elise Earl, daughter Tegan Earl, parents Michael and Deborah Earl, sisters Nichole (Brian) Van De Merwe and Melissa (Robert) Wells, Nieces Chaylynn Tavarez and Bella Wells, Nephews Brenton Tavarez and Grant Wells, Father-in-law Trent Arrington (Leslie), Mother-in-law Liane Bronson (Jonathan), Sister-in-law Shannon (LaMar) Powell and nephews LaMar Powell, Jake Powell, and Reagan Dawes, Sister-in-law Suzy Gordon and Niece Angelina Gordon.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Jesse and Ona Earl and George Tomoff.

Chris, you are loved by many and will be greatly missed. Our hearts are forever broken. Until we see you again. Rest in peace.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, June 22 2021 from 6:00 P.M.– 8:00 P.M. at Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 South 2200 West Riverton, Utah. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Broomhead Funeral Home 12600 South 2200 West Riverton, Utah.

Because Chris had a casual dress style, and was often seen in shorts, a button down, and flipflops, we're encouraging men to dress similarly for Chris's Services.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to his surviving family via the Chris Earl Memorial Account at America First Credit Union.

Not sure what to say?

I met Chris in high school playing football in 1998 and right from the first time meeting I enjoyed hanging out with him at practice or in the weight room. He was always happy and fun to be around but worked hard when it was time; over the years our friendship grew and we even got jobs together as cooks at Wingers.

After high school we went different directions for a while until moving and becoming neighbors in 2015. From high school and working together I knew Chris for always...

May fond memories of Chris comfort you at this difficult time. Sending love your way.

Mike and Debbie...you raised a wonderful son, brother, husband and father. We think highly of him and will miss him so much and are so saddened.

Jonathan and Liane

Mike and Earl Family, so saddened and sorry for the loss of Chris. I had the privilege of coaching little league football with Mike and Chris when our boys were 10,11,12 . I then got to see Chris grow and develop as a young man and athlete thru jr high and high school. Chris was a great young man and I know he learned and became the man he was from the examples of his parents.
Chris passed on June 15 th my 60 th birthday, I will always remember him as a good person who always wanted to...

Dan and I were so shocked and saddened when Rossi told us about Chris. We have so many memories of the boys growing up together. Chris was a good friend and grew into a great person who will be missed by many. Our thoughts are with you.

Chris will be remembered as a smart, kind and fun loving planner. I literally remember the first time we had a meeting to discuss a community issue. I was impressed by him and delighted when he was hired on as a Planner. I’m going to miss him on our team, as will we all at SLC. Sending love to his family during this time.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. May Chris's soul be at peace with our Heavenly Father. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. His gentle soul will always be with you.
Sincerely,

Jill Thompson

I remember first meeting Chris at Mountain West Truck Center back in high school. Chris’s humorous and energetic personality made working in the warehouse so much fun. Chris loved his black Ford Mustang, and he had so much in common with my best friend Elise I had to introduce them – I knew they would be great together and history wrote itself. I remember walking into their baby shower years later only to find out my mom worked with Chris’s dad at the time – such a small world. Thanks for...
