As Pat and Gert likely remember, it was 1975. I was a lowly freshman (9th grade at Edison Jr.High) and Chris was a senior at Champaign Central when we first met during my try-outs for the varsity tennis team. Well, I made it and Chris and I ended up playing #1 and #4 singles, respectively, and we were doubles partners. Although he was the captain of the team and a senior, Chris always made sure that I was included as part of the team. In fact, many times he went out of his way to pick me up...

Dear Gertrude,
The news of Chris' death was devastating. I can only imagine how inconsolable your anguish is. Chris was a brave and immensely loyal man, a brother you can be proud of. Be comforted in knowing his torment is over and he is at last at peace. I pray that you, his children, and his loved ones soon overcome your grief and find an everlasting peace, as Chris has.
