Chris died January 7, 2013 in San Diego, CA as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Survived by his parents, Brian and Stephanie Manning; his sister, Jacqueline; grandparents, Richard Manning, and John and Donna Sifferle; his aunts and uncles, Bruce Manning, Patty Manning, Anne Good (Bill), Michael Manning (Nga), and Sue Sifferle; his cousins; and many friends.
Chris was born in Seattle, WA in September 1986. He was raised in Shoreline, WA. Chris was a good Catholic man who attended St. Luke Church, and School in Shoreline, and graduated from O'Dea High School in Seattle. He loved O'Dea and the good times he experienced there. While at O'Dea Chris participated in Cross Country, Wrestling, and the Latin Club. Chris was an avid high school wrestler, wrestling for 4 years at O'Dea. During his senior year, he wrestled at the WA State Wrestling Tournament. After high school, he attended Iowa State University under an NROTC scholarship where he studied engineering and exercise science.
Chris loved the State of Iowa, and his time at Iowa State University. Following the completion of his junior year, he decided to relinquish his scholarship and enlist in the Navy. Chris initially reported to BUD/S, Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training. Chris made it through the training pipe line all the way up to day 3 of hell week which is a challenge in itself. After that, he received orders to the USS THACH where he served as an Operations Specialist, and member of the VBSS team (visit, board, search, and seizure) which specializes in counter drug operations and anti-piracy missions. Chris loved the US Navy, and all the people he was fortunate to work with in the Navy. During Chris's first deployment on the USS THACH the ship circumnavigated South America. He stepped foot in over 12 countries. He went through the Straights of Magellan, the Panama Canal, and he was only 500 miles away from Antarctica. He was both a shell back and a moss back, stood in the southern most city in the world, saw the Southern Cross, and did a cross fit workout in the snow on the ocean off of the coast of Chile of which he was very proud. Chris was also a part of a historic flag raising ceremony in El Salvador, where he helped raise the American flag for the first time in over 60 years.
Chris' hobbies included skateboarding, learning the "romance" languages, motorcycles, fishing and boating. An avid physical fitness enthusiast, he always kept himself in peak physical condition. He also enjoyed cooking.
Chris is loved by his friends that he served with. He was a hard worker whose tenacious attitude helped him excel at everything he did in life. He helped anyone in need, and was dedicated to his friends, family and his country. He could make you smile no matter what the scenario was. We will miss Chris's smile and sense of humor. Goodbye Chris your family and friends will miss you.
Funeral Mass will celebrated at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 19th at St. Luke Catholic Church, 17533 N. 175th St., Shoreline, WA 98133.
