Christopher J. Merry

Christopher J. Merry, of Somerville, MA passed away suddenly on May 24, 2023. Chris was born in Winchester, MA on October 6, 1979 to the late John and Christine (Hiitt) Merry. He is survived by his loving wife Jennifer (Hosman) Merry.  

Chris grew up in Wilmington, MA and was surrounded by friends and family in his neighborhood. He loved to reminisce about his childhood and the time he spent on Veranda Ave. So many of those memories included his Aunt Candace (Hiitt), her husband, David Beaulieu and his cousin Devin, who were constant supports to him growing up.

Chris was a devoted husband to his wife Jenny. He cherished their relationship and worked incredibly hard to show her that love every day. He never let her leave the house without a kiss and a hug. He was always doing little things to surprise her. A small gift, flowers on a random day, or a sweet treat brought home from work were some of his favorite ways to do this. Chris was a loving son-in-law, brother-in-law, and uncle. He adored his family and would do anything for them. He was always the first to volunteer to help with anything they needed. It didn’t take long at all for Chris to think of Jenny’s family as his own and he cherished all the holidays, weekends at the camp, and trips to Disney that they all took together. He was Uncle Merry to all the kids and he loved that title so much.

Chris began working for Wegmans in 2019, just a few short months before the COVID-19 pandemic reached the US. He trained in his position during the most stressful, hectic, and scary time but he never once complained. He loved going to work and the relationships he built with the team there were so important to him. He had a knack for customer service and he truly valued working for that company.  

Chris was an avid sports fan and loved attending Red Sox games, where he could be heard chanting in the stands louder than just about anyone. His favorite holiday was Red Sox Opening Day and he had a 20+ year tradition of ringing in that day with his friends, old and new, at the Cask’n Flagon in Boston. He loved to play poker, all sorts of yard games, and to be outdoors, especially in the summer. He was a strong and fast swimmer and loved to tell people he could “swim like a dolphin”. Chris had a mind for numbers and his ability to remember sports statistics and trivia was seriously impressive.

Those who knew Chris will miss his loud and contagious laugh, his sense of humor, his caring nature, and his ability to make any day brighter by lighting it up with his infectious smile. He will never be forgotten.

Visiting Hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Saturday, June 3rd from 10:00AM to 12:00PM. With Remembrances being shared at 11:30AM, Relatives and friends invited to attend.
