POWERS, Christopher, of Petersburg, departed this life Sunday, February 20, at the Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. A native of Silver Spring, Md., he was born May 10, 1971 to Henry Powers and Peggy Turner. He was baptized at an early age at the Evangel Temple, Washington, D.C. He was a 1989 graduate of Green Run High School, Virginia Beach. He also attended Virginia State University. He was employed as store manager of F.Y.E. of Southpark Mall, Colonial Heights. He is survived by his loving wife, Melyatta Powers; five children, Khalil, Amanee, Nasja, Christian and Cedric; mother, Peggy Turner (Roland) of Richmond; father, Henry Powers (Mila) of Virginia Beach; one brother, Michael Powers (Tynisha) of Richmond; four stepsisters, Amanda Turner, Rolanda Walker, Rosalyn Turner and Rochelle Turner, all of Richmond; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marion and Melvin Clarke of Petersburg; two sisters-in-law, Delita Clarke and Ayesha Clarke; godsister-in-law, Rena Amos of Chesterfield; four nieces, Mikhayla, Mekiyah, Kamaya Powers and Jalita Clarke; one nephew, Davontre Jones; and a host of cousins and other family members and friends. Funeral service 1 p.m. Friday, February 25, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax Street, Petersburg, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs Sr., pastor, eulogist. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 24, from 7 until 8 p.m. at the funeral establishment. Funeral arrangements entrusted to J.M. Man, this is a blow. Chris use to come to my apartment during his college years hanging with my room mate Corey Hayes and friend Eugene Reed. Chris was a comedian a lot of time but he had no problem telling it like it was either. Man...you will be missed!
