True Partner at Home

Christopher and Dolores Sullivan were high school sweethearts, and he gave her a happy ending with a modern twist. She got a prince who was never too tired to play with their sons, Sean, 6, and Brian, 4 or to prepare her lunch for work. Mr. Sullivan, 39, was a firefighter at Ladder 11 and Engine 214 in Brooklyn.

"The main thing about him was that he was an excellent father," Mrs. Sullivan said. "He'd come home after working 24 hours and they would want to play and he played. He took them hiking and camping. He also did everything at home, from cooking to cleaning. We were a real team."

"The kids didn't have their Dad long, but they got a lot from him," Mrs. Sullivan said.

Jim Sullivan, Christopher's father, said his son "had a heart of gold but no one pushed him around," which made him perfect for firefighting. "Chris loved his job so much. We really respected the men he worked with."

Firefighter Sullivan also loved nature. He planted a pumpkin for the first time this year, and it grew. The family used it to make pumpkin bread at Thanksgiving.

Not sure what to say?

Today I participated in the 911 stair climb at Red Rocks Ampitheater in Colorado - a beautiful event to benefit fallen firefighters and honor those lost on 9/11. Each participant got to wear a badge to remember a fallen hero. I was honored to wear a badge with Christopher's name and photo and was touched to read more about him here when I got home. Sending my warmest thoughts to all of Christopher's family and friends today, and always.

I just remember Chris always being a good guy, from our days in St.K through High school. Always fearless, tough, never a bully, always stood up for what was right. He was the same person from the day I met him in 2nd or third grade till the last time I saw him before he passed..Funny,engaging and that big Irish smile.. I will always take pause this time of year to remember him and what a truly great man we lost on that sad day..RIP

Well Chris another year and I will always repeat the same prayer I have for you. I think you would be proud of your family, and sons. I hope that you rest in peace knowing hhow much I love your sister and I miss you. Sometimes I wish I could ask you for advice.

I was doing a research paper on 9/11 victims and came across Mr.Sullivan and couldn't help but to think how his family got through this crisis and say that he was a great man from reading his section on NY times and i have decided to do my entire paper on this man.

Hey, Chris.
I am late this year. I wish with all my might that you could be here. Your sister misses you greatly, as do I. You are images and distant memory for me. But for your sister its so hard. My prayer to you is as always, that you rest easy knowing how much I love your sister, and I try to make her as happy and safe as possible.
