A Long Drive Home
Christopher W. Wodenshek would joke ruefully with his wife, Anne, about the demands of his work heading the electricity brokerage department at Cantor Fitzgerald. He had been there less than two years, after all, and he and his family had just moved from Connecticut to Ridgewood, N.J.

"He'd say, 'I wish I could be at your tennis game, but I have this thing called work,' " Mrs. Wodenshek said. "He was very dedicated to it."

Yet with five young children, aged 2 to 9, Mr. Wodenshek, 35, also found ways to meet the demands of fatherhood. For example, Mrs. Wodenshek and her children summered on Martha's Vineyard, and Mr. Wodenshek would fly up on weekends. When work kept him from flying one Friday night for the end-of-vacation drive home last month, he drove up the next day and surprised Mrs. Wodenshek and the kids at the ferry.

"Then he took the kids and the big car and turned around and drove home with them, so I could have a peaceful drive home," Mrs. Wodenshek said. "He did it for me."

C. Wodenshek, 35, devoted to kids Christopher Wodenshek had five children and was "rarely seen without one or two of them in his arms," according to a family member.

To shorten his commute to work at the World Trade Center so he could spend more time with his children, Mr. Wodenshek moved his family a month ago from Stamford, Conn., to Ridgewood, the town in which he grew up.

"He was a lover of life, with a wonderful sense of humor, dedicated and committed to his family, friends and work," said the relative. "He was the type of person who always had a smile on his face, an encouraging word and a helpful hand."

Mr. Wodenshek, 35, was at work on the 105th floor of the World Trade Center's North Tower when an airliner hijacked by terrorists slammed into the building Sept. 11.

He was a director for Houston- based Tradespark, supervising a staff of 36 in brokerage operations for electricity. He had been with the firm for 21/2 years. He earlier was employed by a financial services firm in Stamford.

"My memory of him is that he was extremely loyal and ethically impeccable, as well as the hardest and most aggressive worker I have ever known," said Rick Beaman, general manager of Tradespark. "Also, there was not a mean bone in his body. He will be very much missed."

Mr. Wodenshek was described as an avid runner, proud of having completed the New York City marathon in 1996.

He was the son of Florence Wodenshek of Lodi and the late Raymond Garreth Wodenshek. He leaves his wife, Anne; three daughters, Sarah, Haley and Mollie; two sons, William and Zachary; a brother, Raymond of Teaneck, and four sisters, Linda Remenschneider of Lodi, Florence "Mickie" Garrett of Wood-Ridge, Patricia Wodenshek of West Paterson and Mariellen DeLellis of Raleigh, N.C.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1 Passaic St., Ridgewood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christopher Wodenshek Children's Trust, c/o attorney Thomas Palace, 20 Court St., Hackensack, N.J. 07601.

Not sure what to say?

I sat next to Chris at Phibro in Westport for a while. He was good and kind and quiet with a wonderful sense on humor. We shared a birthday which made me feel close to him. At Cantor he was a friend and broker to my brother. I still remember speaking to my brother and him telling me that they had spoken to Chris on the phone after the planes hit. I think of him often and his sweet manner and pray for his family.

I was an elementary school classmate of Chris' at Our Lady of Assumption. Chris was the best friend of my first boyfriend as a girl, Colan. Chris was dating my best friend Catherine.

I have so many wonderful memories of Chris. His funny laugh. His slightly nervous but completely genuine smile. He was a good friend and will always be a part of my childhood memories. I especially remember how great a friend he was to a new classmate, Mark Castellano (now deceased). That was Chris. A...

To Anne and Family - my best wishes hoping you are all happy and well. So many years later but still in my memory.....a truly fabulous guy xx

Remembering Christopher and all those lost on Nine Eleven. We will never forget.

I had to honor to speak your name out loud today at the 15th Anniversary of the 9/11 attack, held in Sarasota Florida at the National Cemetary Tribute. You are Not forgotten!
May God bless your family each and every day.

14 years I have listened to hear your name in the 9/11 Memorial. Some years like today I get to see one of your loved ones on television with a picture of you. It touches me deeply on the loss of your great spirit. Your children may have not known you too well because of you short time with them, but I see you still live on in their being. I was fortunate to know you, your family and friends through my brother Mark. Some of the funniest and craziest things in my memories happened when you...

although I never met you, it saddens me knowing you're gone. rest in peace

I go to school with your son, Will. You would be so proud of him Mr. Wodenshek. He's funny, caring, always smiling, and loving towards others. Even though I may not be one of his close friends, I would consider him a friendly classmate. He was friendly to everybody- including me. As we remeber you today, I can't help but think what Will, and the rest of your family must be going through. Your son makes me laugh with the one liners he throws out, and just like so many other have said, you made...
