Christy Lee Anderson was born December 21, 1960 to Bob and June Anderson in Chicago, IL. She attended school in Tucson, AZ. She received a basketball scholarship to Central Arizona College, but opted to pursue her true love, music.
In 1982 Cody Landstrom of Ned Sutton and the Rabbits discovered Christy in a Tucson night club playing bass for a punk rock band. During a 6 week tour of Deadwood, Spearfish and the Redwater Revival in Beulah, WY, Christy fell in love with the Black Hills. After the Rabbits split up, she moved herself to Western South Dakota.
She joined Kenny Miller, Mike Devires and Cody Landstom to form the Kenny Miller Band, performing not only in the Hills but also around the world doing USO tours. In 1987 she joined Hank Harris forming the Hank & Christy Duo; in 1989 she joined Barry Pitt and the Foggy Notion band. During the 90's she could be seen playing in any one of these bands, as well as bands that would call her when they needed an exceptional bass player. As a respected and versatile musician, she would often be asked to fill in or do a guest spot when she was spotted in the crowd. As her fans will tell you, Christy filled the stage with incredible talent and a knack for making everyone feel like her best friend.
In 2000, Christy embarked on a solo career and produced an original CD, "Awakening" in 2001. She would still perform occasionally with others, but mostly she did what she loved most - performing solo for her beloved friends in the Black Hills.
Christy approached all aspects of her life with fierce passion and dedication. Even as a teenager her versatile talent led her to become the Arizona State Goat Tying champion and the Captain of the All-state High School basketball team. She was a formidable competitor in golf, a dedicated youth basketball coach and an incredible cook.
Christy met Dave Meier in 1986, and they began their family life in 1988 with the birth of their son, Wyatt. Their family expanded once more in 1993 with the birth of their daughter, Chloe. During this time, Christy passed up what could have been the biggest opportunity of her professional life, as all her successes were secondary to her most important career as a loving and caring Mom.
Christy left this world on January 22, 2005. She was 44. She is survived by her two children, Wyatt and Chloe and their father Dave Meier, her parents, Bob and June Anderson, Tucson AZ, sister Penny (Victor) and children-Aaron, Sara, and Gabriel of San Francisco, CA, brother Rick and son-Will of Tucson AZ, brother Bryan and children-Kyndall and Dylan of Tucson AZ. Christy was admired, respected and loved by those whose lives she touched. Her family, her friends and her community will miss her.
