I remember watching the 1979 World Series with my dad. I was so impressed with Chuck Tanner's grace and humility as I watched Pittsburgh take the championship. Thanks for the memories Mr. Tanner. My dad is 87 now and we still talk about that series and what a great guy you are.

A big part of my childhood was watching the Pirates as often as possible and the fondness I had for him as the manager. As an adult, there was always warmth felt whenever he would be seen at a Pirates game. Thanks for 79' Chuck and the many enjoyable years in Pittsburgh.

i have read all the messages,i probably knew chuck( we called him lefty in school) longer than most,we went to high school ( shenango)together,when he came home from his off season i was still in school & he would come to high school,play catch with me & give me some good baseball advice,i pitched for the team,he was always there for me & others.lot of people out there didn't know chuck was a basketball & football star in high school.i met his son bruce & wife in ca. when he was the pitching...

My sincere condolence to the Tanner Family. Chuck was my manager when I played for the 1964 Quad City Angels in Davenport Iowa. He was loved by his players and fans in Davenport. His influence on me at 21 years old contributed to my successful career after baseball.
