Cindy Lou Neuschwander

I just heard today about Cindy's passing. I am shocked and saddened. I first met Cindy while doing an internship at the Anderson Gallery. She and I worked on the Anderson's collection, where I found a wonderful etching by Van Gogh. She was a bright ray of sunshine, as one can easily see in her wonderful smile. I will keep her family in my thoughts and prayers.

so sorry to hear this. cindy was my student and my good friend @ UT in the early 80s,....(we reconnected a few years ago)...she was so happy in her life and her art. my condolences to her loved ones.

i learned a couple weeks ago when i emailed her and jay responded. i can't tell you how affected i was with remorse and sadness... what a loss for us and a beautiful new spirit in heaven. Cindy visited my store,CIAO,in Carytown,the minute i met her i felt a connection, her soul and inner beauty just poured out of her...you know when you just love someone the instant you meet them? I met Cindy at the Anderson Gallery where I did an internship.
She later became a wonderful friend and changed my life in Virginia. She will be missed.

I only learned today of Cindy's passing, and want to reach out to Jay and her family to share with you how she touched my life. I worked with her a few years ago as an artist advisor, and we spent hours together crafting word by word a new artist statement that could best communicate an art that operates outside of language. During that time I got to know her intimately, and was struck by her vision, her engaged questioning of her work and herself, and left our collaboration filled with her...

I first met Cindy's work, in Austin & wanted to meet her then. Only a few years later did I get the chance in RVA. Kind, fun, and so very genuine, Cindy inspired me in many ways. I will never forget when we worked setting up Lucas Samiras' Mirrored Corridor at the VMFA; one day after lunch we lay down inside of our finished chamber to 'reflect' and ended up giggling in an-all consuming fit of laughter over the infinite reflections of ourselves. Cindy and I were classmates and friends in junior high and later. I remember most: her smile & laugh, and how she was always quick with a witty remark.
She and I were debate partners in speech class ... she always took the difficult side of the issue and left me the easy one. When I asked why, she just laughed and said it was more fun to take the part that required more creative answers. And so it was with her life. I will celebrate her memory.

Jay,and Family, Neuschwander family, I would like to express my sincere condolenses to you for the loss of your loved one.
