DEMERS, Claire Simone (Hamelin) - Of Flint, age 83, died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at her residence. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11AM Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, G-3139 Hogarth Avenue in Flint, Reverend Monsignor Richard J. Groshek and Father Robert F. Copeland concelebrating. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Pius X Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society. Visitation 1PM-8PM Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed 7PM Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Demers will be at the church 10AM Tuesday until the time of the Mass. Claire was born in Scott Junction Quebec, Canada on March 5, 1926, the daughter of Joseph Ovide Hamelin and Mabel M. Laverdiere and was raised in Biddleford, Maine, where she attended St. Joseph School before moving to Old Orchard Beach, Maine and finally to Flint in 1950. She married Roland P. Demers on May 31, 1947 at St. Margaret's Church in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Mrs. Demers was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, Catholic Golden Age, the Funeral Dinner Crew and was past-president of the Altar Society. She was very active in the church affairs since its beginning. She was also a member of VFW Post #3087 Auxiliary and AARP. Mrs. Demers enjoyed traveling, crafts, sewing quilts, Bingo, cards and going to Maine and Canada every summer. Surviving are her husband, Roland P. "Frenchie"; 2 daughters, Dorothy and husband Dale Vronch of Lapeer, Diane Demers of Flushing; grandson, Ryan and wife Debbie Vronch of Lapeer; 3 great-granddaughters, Jessica, Paige and Morgan Vronch; 2 brothers, Norman and wife Linda Hamelin of Flushing, John L. Hamelin of Leland; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Yvette Hamelin, her parents, Joseph and Mabel Hamelin and her brother Renald (Luke) Hamelin. The family would like to thank the staff at Woodhaven Senior Community and at McLaren Visiting Nurse and Hospice for their kindness and care.
