Adobe Creek Funeral Home - Petaluma Obituary

Claire Myna Gochberg, born June 7, 1940, in Boston, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on October 17, 2025, surrounded by the family she cherished. Claire’s life was a tapestry of love, resilience, and generosity—a story woven with devotion to her children, grandchildren, and the countless lives she touched.

From her earliest days, Claire radiated warmth and kindness. She graduated from Winthrop High School and became a dental hygienist, but her greatest joy came from being a mother. Claire married her high school sweetheart and, before turning thirty, welcomed four children into her world. Her love for them was boundless; in her eyes, they could do no wrong.

After her divorce, Claire bravely moved her young family to the Bay Area, seeking a fresh start near her beloved brother and sister-in-law. It was here that she founded Little Rascals Daycare, nurturing generations of children in the Gerstle Park community of San Rafael for over forty years. Claire’s home was a haven—her heart open not only to her own family but to anyone in need of comfort or companionship, especially during the holidays.

Claire’s commitment extended beyond her own daycare. She joined the Marin Daycare Association, advocating for children, parents, and fellow providers. Her legacy is felt in the lives of those she cared for, many of whom returned as adults to share their stories and gratitude.

Family was Claire’s anchor. She is survived by her four children: Shari Gochberg (and her son Malcolm, with Cindy Ramirez and their daughters Malina and Mariah), Gary Gochberg (with Michelle Gochberg and their daughters Isabella and Lilliana), Elise Gochberg, and Jodi Gochberg. Claire reveled in her role as Nana, and her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the light of her life.

Her best friend and sister-in-law, Bonnie Margolin, was her confidante and companion, sharing in adventures, laughter, and the joys of everyday life. Claire was the planner and heart of her circle of friends, organizing dinners, movies, and outings that brought people together.

Travel was Claire’s passion—her curiosity and sense of adventure never faded, even as her body slowed. She explored Seattle, the Bahamas, Kentucky and Tennessee, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Diego, and ventured overseas to Italy, France, and Egypt. Her bucket list was endless, her dreams vibrant until the very end.

Claire’s spirit was defined by her humor—sharp, witty, and always loving. She embraced technology late in life, delighting in updates from former daycare kids and family on Facebook. Her house was always open, her heart always welcoming.

Claire’s legacy is one of unconditional love, fierce advocacy, and joyful connection. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Shiva will be observed this Wednesday, and Thursday, 10/22-23 from 4-7 p.m., and a celebration of her remarkable life will be held on Sunday, November 9th from 3-5pm at Temple Rodef Shalom, 170 North San Pedro Road, San Rafael, California.

Not sure what to say?

I’m so sad to hear the news. My deepest condolences for the family that I knew she adored. She was a great source of fun and laughter during our daycare provider days. RIP dear Claire ❣

I will always cherish the fun times we had in Holliston. I will miss her wonderful laugh. Six months could go by before we talked on the phone but it seemed like the day before.
Rest in peace my dear friend. You will be missed.

To Claire’s children and all her family,

I just finished reading Claire’s Obit. Wowit’s true you always learn so much, when you read an obit and you go to a Celebration of Life, you hear all wonderful things about a special person. Claire was special when she became my niece Michele’s mother-in-law. She became special with all of our family. She will be missed and the memories will be in my heart.

Hugs & Love,
Auntie Lois

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this time.
