Collier’s Funeral Home - Saint Ann Obituary

Clara Dorothy Fennewald, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, 97, of St. Louis passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025.

She was born March 1, 1928 in Westphalia, Missouri to the late Frank and Marie (Pfitzner) Huhn.  She was the eldest of their nine children. She married Joseph Charles Fennewald, also of Westphalia, on June 7, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia.  After briefly residing in Jefferson City, they moved to the St. Louis area and raised their six children in a St. Louis suburb, Glasgow Village.

Clara was a stay-at-home mom for many years.  She eventually went back to work and spent the majority of her working years at Killark Electric (now Hubbell Inc.).  After her retirement, she spent her time volunteering.  She especially enjoyed helping people through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She also enjoyed travelling (especially if family was involved), fishing and learning.  Although she only had a high school education, she had an extremely sharp mind.

Her number one pleasure was spending time with her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, sister Mildred and husband Linus Rudroff, sister Marcella and husband Larry Weiberg, and three additional brothers-in-laws, Marion Wasinger, John "Jack" Graessle and Richard Wagner.  She was also preceded in death by her beloved grandson, David Fennewald.

She is survived by her six children: Michael (Pamela) Fennewald of Galveston, Kenneth (Patricia) Fennewald of Maryland Heights, Susan Fennewald of Galveston, Peggy (Robert) Kruckemeyer of Houston, Mary Van Arsdale of Waterloo, IL, and Joseph (Elizabeth) Fennewald of St. Louis.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Joseph Van Arsdale (Katie Gould), Jessica Masulla (Michael), Jonathan Kruckemeyer (Emily), Sarah Hassan (Bilal), Joseph Kruckemeyer, Michael Kruckemeyer, Elizabeth Fennewald, Adam Fennewald and Michael Fennewald and six great-grandchildren, Michael Masulla, Miles Masulla, Avianna Gould, Everett Van Arsdale, Zayn and Aydin Hassan.

Memorials may be directed to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

The funeral mass will be held at Holy Spirit parish in Maryland Heights, MO on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be on the same date from 10 -11 am in the Holy Spirit church vestibule.

Burial of the cremation remains at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will occur on Monday, October 13, 2025 at 9:15 am.
