Clara and Hubert Hinds met in Trinidad. At 14, she could sew a wedding dress. "As the years go by, we were getting closer and closer," he said. They moved to Far Rockaway in Queens after marrying.

"Everything was for the family," said Mr. Hinds. "She would bake and cook up a storm. She would go to work and would hustle home to be with the family for dinner. When the boys were young she took them to baseball. She was like a big kid rooting for them when they ran bases."

Ms. Hinds, 52, worked as a seamstress at the Rainbow Room and Windows on the World. "She believed in being polite and humble," said Mr. Hinds. She sewed for family and friends and repaired a 1929 gown for a Broadway play as a favor. "She thought: 'God made colorful things, flowers, animals, trees,' " he said. " 'Why should we be prejudiced?' She thought: 'Life is too short to be sad. She hated people to be down.' "

"I was pretty fortunate," he said. "Most people say marriage is heaven and hell. For me, it was 31 years of heaven."

Not sure what to say?

On 20th anniversary of that awful day, still treasure Clara’s prayer card given to me at Holy Name Cathedral mass following 9/11. Never forget you Clara. As I sew I will think of you.

Still remembering Clará after 18 years. My prayers go out to her and her family as we remember all who perished on 9/11. I still have my prayer card with her name on it. Never Forget.

To the Hinds family,
May God continue to comfort and bless you on this day and always. As a Trinidadian-American, I know that Clara is looking down from the heavens, and is guiding her loved ones and enjoying the beauty of the northern range. God's blessings .

I send my thoughts and warm regards to Claras family.

Today, 09/11/2018, we remember you Clara. We will never forget. Wishing all the best to your family and friends. Much regards.

Hi there,

My name is Andy, a student at the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. To commemorate victims, of 911, every student was given wristbands with a name on it. Mine was Clara's. She sounds like an incredible woman, and I will share her story. Praying for her husband and family.

Thinking of you, Clara. Missing your joy. Love to your family-

I worked with Clara at Rainbow Room and was so sad when she left to go to Windows. To walk into work and see Clara's face, when picking up my uniform, was always uplifting. She always asked of my family, and thanked heaven for good news of thier well being. I'm grateful to have known her. She was a light and I think of her often.
