Not sure what to say?

Jim,

It's been a year past and the memory of you and Clara is still vivid. I miss her dearly as I had so much respect and admiration for her. I can only imagine how much you and your family must still miss her. We really had a great 50th reunion but something was missing-You and Clara. I was hoping to see you there but I fully understand why I didn't. Believe me You and Clara were there. Respectfully Fred Brown

I first knew Jim during three years at Holy Cross, Notre Dame, in the early 1950’s. Jim was a classmate, a house mate, a second tenor in the choir, a football nemesis, and a friend.

I first met Clare at the 2000 Holy Cross/Notre Dame reunion. Tom Norris, Jim Callahan, and others described how much Clare and Jim were alike, loving family, education, and their world-wide adventures. One story was related when Jim and Clare hitch-hiked to a Notre Dame football game following a car...

Gil and I visited Jim and Ruth last summer. They were such gracious hosts and showed us around their house and yard. Each of them separately shared quite openly about how they are coping with the changes in Clare, and the news that the cancer had spread into the liver. She spoke so fondly of her family and asked that I read outloud Tina's written tribute to her mother that had been posted on their wall. I found it somewhat difficult to keep my voice steady as I read it, but Clare kept...

Clare (Ruth) was a role model for me--though I never have come close to her vitality or faith. I treasure our last outing at the Native American museum in D.C. summer '08. Patrick and I are sending much love and prayer your way Jim--and to your family.

Dearest Jim and family;
What a blessing it has been to know Clare (and you) these past several years. Our paths first crossed when we were teaching middle school youth and did combined activities with Unity of Kalamazoo and Unity of Muskegon groups. And the family retreat at Camp Pendaluna will always be etched in my mind when you both presented a workshop there.
Clare was a dear, dear friend. Her inspiration to all of us is never ending. I will forever be touched when I think...

I will always think of Clara and her mother when I remember Girl Scouts. One of the fun times in my life as a girl growing up in the 1950s. Mary Janusiewicz (Jan) Taylor
I also remember Clara playing the accordian after a hayride ending at her house.

Dear Jim and family,
We send our deepest regards to you and your family. Clare has always been such a genuine and wonderful person who will be missed. Our whole family extends its heartfelt sympathies.
Love,
Mark
