Clare in Paradise

Clare was a spunky, quick, creative, aware and caring person - full of life and love. She is missed...
Here are is a photo taken when she joined us on a family vacation to Hawaii. She was a happily involved step-grandmama, helping my children to create many works of art in the sand, for hours and hours.
I know she is at peace hopping tide pools in the sky...
Love.

Clare and I were 'new faculty wives' and met at a KU mixer. I discovered her interest in ceramics when I was just a clay enthusiast. She invited me to share in her garage studio and learn at her elbow. Clare was a generous craftswoman who shared everything she knew with a beginner. Our house has many beautiful items which she made. Her smile is remembered when I look at or hold them.

Too soon, too fast. Our Clare moved us with that twinkle in her eye, her talented hands, her eye for beauty, her generosity, thoughtfulness, and old fashioned reserve. I will remember that Clare chuckle, her courage, stubbornness, and assertiveness. I will keep her in my heart as a "golden" friend and as the one who taught me to value and include beauty in my daily life.

I took this picture of Clare from my bedroom window during the last snowstorm this past January. We had all been snowbound for a week. Even after the snow plow finally came through, the steep hill in front of our condo was covered in snow and ice. The sound of spinning tires drew my attention to the road. The neighbor across from us was skidding and swerving, trying to put his car in the garage. Finally, he gave up and parked in the visitors' lot down below. After he went into his...

Calder was a valued employee and friend of our business, Earthworks. Also, Clare was a student many years ago in Joe's mushroom class. She was a gracious and intelligent person. We want to send our condolences to the family. Cathy and Joe

We always envisioned Clare as one of those women who never seems to age, who just gets stronger and more beautiful with the passage of time. Clare was the best thing that ever happened to Chuck. She should have been hiking, beach-combing and taking pictures for at least two more decades.

Here is a poem for her from Goethe:

Even little things can delight us,
Even little things can be precious.
Think how we gladly adorn ourselves with pearls;
They are heavily paid for,...

A favorite vase by Claire

This is such a loss for all of us who knew & loved Claire. At least we have beautiful memories of her all over our house. All of you are in our thoughts & we're sharing a picture of a favorite vase of hers. Way too many wonderful memories with a very dear friend.

We remember a cross country ski trip trip to Yellowstone through Eugene parks and rec one winter. Claire was fearless on those steep slopes-- flying downhill with a big grin on her face. After that we always stopped to chat when we saw Clare and Chuck at Full City.
We hold you in our hearts, Clare, and send our deepest sympathies to Chuck and family Love and hugs to you, sincerely Laurie and Kirsten
