Clarence KELLERMAN Obituary

KELLERMAN,
Clarence James
Clarence James Kellerman, of Round Rock, Texas, went into the arms of his loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, November 4, after a brief battle with cancer.

Clarence was better known as CJ or Dutch, as well as Loving Husband, Dad, Granddad, Great-Granddad, and Uncle Dutch.

Of his many accomplishments, rearing a loving family who are strong in their faith was his greatest. CJ is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bernadette; his daughter and son-in-law, Delores (Dot) and Steve Ammons of Leander, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Nyle Maxwell of Austin, TX; son and daughter-in-law, David and Melanie Kellerman of Georgetown, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia (Cindy) and Russell Waters of Georgetown, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Matt Browning of Keller, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Terence Quinn of Austin, TX; along with 19 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces throughout the world.

CJ was born on April 5, 1934 in Oil City, PA to John and Elsie Kellerman. CJ attended St. Joseph's Catholic School where he was on the varsity football team and was the life of the party. He worked as a pin-boy at the local bowling alley. After graduation, CJ was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany where he was active in the on-going rebuilding effort after WWII. With an honorable discharge, he went home to say hello/ good-bye to his parents, as he traveled to Dallas, TX for a job opportunity. It was at a church social that CJ met Bernadette. A few months later, on New Year's Eve, he asked her to marry him, right there on the dance floor. Being a Yankee, meeting Bernadette's Czechoslovakian parents in New Corn Hill, TX was quite an experience. CJ learned to love Lone Star beer instead of Rolling Rock beer, and Texas barbeque instead of pot roast. Using the GI bill, CJ went to the University of Texas at Austin (Hook 'em) where he graduated with a Bachelor in Science Mechanical Engineering degree. During his education, they lived in the Deep Eddy apartments, where they started their family, and would travel to New Corn Hill every weekend to load their car with farm raised produce and meats from Bernadette's parents' farm.

CJ was offered a job with IBM Corporation in San Jose, CA. If you knew anyone who worked for IBM, IBM stood for "I've Been Moved". CJ and Bernadette, with children in tow, moved to San Jose, CA; Rochester, MN; Boblingen, West Germany; back to Rochester; down to Austin, TX; almost to Boca Raton, FL; then to Tokyo, Japan where CJ retired from IBM after 26 years. Not quite ready to retire, CJ accepted a job with MEAD Corporation in Dayton, Ohio. Then after his final corporate retirement, they moved to Round Rock, TX.

Both CJ and Bernadette, who are devout Roman Catholics, sacrificed so their children could attend Catholic schools. Their faith lead CJ to his final calling; to raise awareness of the need of Catholic schools in the Austin area. CJ worked tirelessly with Archbishop Gregory Aymond, Bishop Joe Vasquez, Bishop Daniel Garcia, Dr. Ned Vanders - Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Diocese of Austin; as well as countless others to bring Holy Family Catholic School, and St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School into existence. CJ was involved in the expansion efforts of San Juan Diego Catholic High School. CJ was also instrumental in the construction of St. William Catholic Church's current sanctuary in Round Rock. CJ's and Bernadette's unselfish contribution of their time, treasure and talent were the catalyst in these endeavors.

Thank you to everyone for your prayers given for CJ and the family. We all know he is in Heaven. To Beck, Emma, and the on-call staff at Hospice Austin, thank you for your compassionate care of CJ. To Elizabeth and Cystral at Brightstar Care, thank you for bringing peace of mind to our family.

CJ requested that we gather in celebration of his life, to have a party and to drink a beer in his name.

The Rosary will be recited at 5 PM and the visitation will be held from 5:30 - 7:00 PM on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, TX. Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of CJ's life will be held on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 10 AM at St. William Catholic Church, 620 Round Rock West Drive, Round Rock, TX. CJ's final resting place will be at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Cemetery in New Corn Hill, Texas.

In lieu of flowers it was CJ's request that donations be made to: Catholic Foundation - Diocese of Austin, 6225 Hwy 290 E, Austin, TX 78723: c/o Diocese of Austin Catholic Schools Endowment - C.J. "Dutch" Kellerman Memorial. Or make donations online at www.austindiocese.org and click on the red donate button.

We never know what "CJ" stands for. So you said, I prefer to be called "Dutch".

For all the great things you have done for your church and community, we are forever grateful.

You have given countless time, talent, and treasure unselfishly so we can have a wonderful place to worship and grow in Christ, we are forever grateful.

Amen, I say to you, the Son of Man comes to each not to be served but to serve. Dutch, you have been a faithful servant. May God grant you His eternal peace.

We are forever grateful for the service you have given to the church so generously and wholeheartedly.

May The Father Almighty reward your kindness in Heaven.

So long Dutch, our dear friend. You are greatly missed.

We met Dutch while working on the capital campaign to raise money for the construction of St Dominic Savio Catholic High School. His passion and drive to expand Catholic education in Central Texss was strong and inspiring. Thousands of children will benefit from attending Catholic school for many years to come because of him. Dutch was the definition of a servant leader. He will be missed but never forgotten.

We met Dutch several times at Holy family Catholic School. Our fondest memory of him was his hard work to help Annunciation Maternity Home getting the grant and his personal contribution, to bring what they needed to update the computer room for the young mothers. May the Lord keep him and his family in the palm of his hand.
Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Dutch was a wonderful supporter of the communities of Holy Family Catholic School and St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School. What a true servant! He generously shared his knowledge, his gift for strategic planning, and his love for helping others. So much of his effort was done behind the scenes, anonymously, but make no mistake, thousands of students will experience a Catholic education because of what he did there. We offer our sincere condolences to Bernadette, and all of his children and family. Celebrate the memories, as there are many!

Dutch was one of the best friends I ever had. I helped recruit him from Rochester to Austin in the mid-70's. He had a great financial mind and was the prototype for a high tech Business Manager I later helped recruit him to Lexis-Nexis in Dayton, Ohio from which he finally retired. We worked closely together on many difficult projects and he was so very very capable. We enjoyed our meals together on the road after a very hard day of very hard meetings at both IBM and Lexis-Nexis. It is no wonder that he was so instrumental in helping grow the Catholic presence in Austin as he loved challenges and would immerse himself in the hardest projects he could find. I wish we had stayed closer over the years after we both left Lexis but we did not. I know of no finer man. Farewell Old Friend. Jack Simpson.

I always enjoyed when Dutch would stop by Mel's on Thursday mornings to encourage our bowling team. His wonderful smile was always so welcome. The love he and Bernadette shared was so obvious to anyone who had the privilege of seeing them together. I know your family will miss him so much. Please take comfort in the peace that God will give you during this sweet but difficult time.

Dutch Kellerman was a very efficient man to have accomplished all that he did in his lifetime. But he was also a lovely, lovely man. We got to know him when he found the excellent painters for the St. William sanctuary, and he put them up with us. He shared the progress they made with us, and we will always be grateful to him for the vision he had for our Church community. Bill and Lin Onofrio Brinkman, Round Rock, TX

Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me. [Mt 25: 34-35]

Dutch was a wonderful man who inspired. We witnessed in his exemplary life the charisms he devoted to his beautiful family, to selfless service in his Catholic faith and to others. His was a most generous heart; his renown innumerable good works.

Our hearts are with Bernadette and all the family as we offer our affection, sincere condolences and continuous prayer.
