Rev. Clarence C. Menard, OMI, born in Mooers, New York on August 12, 1931, died in San Antonio, Texas on March 4, 2016, at the age of 84 years. Fr. Menard attended Oblate College in Bar Harbor, Maine prior to entering Novitiate on August 1, 1952, in Colebrook, New Hampshire. He professed vows as a member of the Congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate on August 2, 1953. Fr. Menard completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Oblate Scholasticate in Natick, Massachusetts. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 24, 1958, at St. Jean-Baptiste Church in Lowell, Massachusetts, by Bishop Jeremiah F. Minihan. Fr. Menard earned a Licentiate and Doctorate in Church History in 1967 from the Pontifical Gregorian University, in Rome, Italy.

Fr. Menard served as a professor at various institutions of higher learning throughout his ministerial life, to include the Oblate College in Bar Harbor, Maine; the Oblate College in Natick, Massachusetts; the Oblate College in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Weston School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana; and Oblate College in Washington, DC. Fr. Menard was also part of the formation team at the national Oblate Novitiate in Godfrey, Illinois. In 2006, Fr. Menard retired to Oblate Madonna Residence in San Antonio, Texas. In 2010, Notre Dame Seminary conferred upon Fr. Menard the Honorary Degree of Letters.

Fr. Menard was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Joseph and Marie Adele (Arcouette) Menard, his brother Joseph, his sister Bertha, sister-in-law Doris Lavalley Menard, and brother-in-law Raymond Lavoie. In addition to his Oblate family, Fr. Menard is survived by his siblings: Rev. Gilbert Menard; Leonard Menard and his wife Joyce; Cecile McDonald and her husband Donald; Rita Miner and her husband Wilmer Gerald; Theresa Menard Lavoie; Roland Menard; Sr. Elizabeth Menard, OP; Gloria Menard; Catherine Frederick and her husband Gerald; Regina Stansbury and her husband John; Jeanne Menard; Arthur Menard and his wife Norma; and numerous nephews and nieces. Fr. Menard will be remembered with respect and esteem by his Oblate brothers and all the people who knew him.

FUNERAL SERVICES

Funeral services will be held at Oblate Madonna Residence Chapel at 5722 Blanco Road, San Antonio, Texas 78216. A Vigil Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Oblate Cemetery.
