Not sure what to say?

He was a great gut. We had "Bug Day" where I volunteer. I thought of him. He was a gift to students.

Our children attended Clarence Owens´ summer science classes. They looked forward to summer hoping to have their chance to bring the chinchilla home for the weekend. He was an inspiration to all children and he instilled in them a love for science. May cherished memories bring you comfort and peace.

I am sorry I missed this obituary I would have loved to walk through Clarence's garden one more time. My children both had Mr Owens biology summer classes They loved the class and him. Later when I took up gardening I had the privilege of talking to him and learning about gardening. I have some of the Hostas he created. He was a fun man to learn from.

I didn´t realize until much later in my life, but Mr. Owens had a tremendous impact on me and I believe he is one of the reasons why I am a science teacher today! I went to the science camp that he held at Parkside for years in the early 80s, and I learned to appreciate nature, catch and mount butterflies, and feed snakes, among other things! I´m sure my story is just one of hundreds of young lives impacted. Thanks, Mr. Owens!

My condolences to the entire family. Mr. Owens is the reason I became a teacher. I had enrolled in his Summer Science Program as an elementary student and loved every minute of it. Later on in Middle School he let me volunteer and help with the younger students in the Summer Science Program. When I was in 9th grade and had Mr. Owens for biology, he welcomed me before school to help with his menagerie of animals. I always felt like he was doing me a favor by letting me help out and enjoy...

Clarence was one of the first persons I met at my first attendance of a Great Lakes Hosta Society meeting. His knowledge and contributions to the hosta world will be missed. Among those contributions were 35 registered hosta. I always enjoyed being in his presence. May he rest in peace.

After my 50th PHS reunion in 2016, I gathered the courage to make an unsolicited call to my favorite teacher, Clarence Owens. He graciously invited my sister and me to his home. As he drove us around in his golf cart, Clarence enthusiastically showed us his special gardens with plants, bushes, and trees designed for specific butterfly, moth, and bird habitats. He showed us his caterpillars in feeding cages and hatched polyphemus moths awaiting their mates. Mr. Owens told us that 32...

I have fond memories of Mr. Owens and his environmental biology class at Parkside High. He always kept us engaged with his hands on approach to taking care of our surroundings planting trees, spreading mulch and recycling. Who could forget his pet Indian python Julius squeezer. I think we need more teachers like Mr. Owens he will be missed. Semper Fi Michael Arntson (class of 74)
