Seale Funeral Service - Denham Springs Obituary

Clarence Eddie Speed Jr. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Clarence Eddie Speed Jr., 58 died on March 5, 2014 after a lengthy battle with cancer at the M. D. Anderson Intensive Care Unit in Houston, Texas with his family at his bedside. Clarence Eddie was born on October 30, 1955, to Anna Phillips Speed and the late Clarence E. Speed Sr. in Magnolia, Mississippi. He was a native of Greensburg, Louisiana and a resident of Denham Springs. Clarence was always an avid sports fan. He enjoyed following all the local teams as well as his beloved New Orleans Saints. This interest began early in his life, when as a youth; he played the position of tight end for the Greensburg High Wildcats continuing collegiately in this position with the Southwest Mississippi Jr. College Bears. Professionally speaking Clarence earned an Accounting Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1978. He was active in his chosen profession for over 30 years. His career began in the private sector holding positions with such companies as Texaco and Charter Marketing. In his later career he became involved with governmental accounting, first working as a Field Auditor for the Louisiana Department of Revenue progressing to Treasurer Positions in Ascension Parish and most currently for the Denham Springs Municipality. Clarence was a dedicated loving husband, father and brother. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Laurie Gill Speed Denham Springs, a daughter and son-in-law, Brenna Lauren and Lynn Burgett of New Orleans, and a son Derrick Blake Speed of Denham Springs. He also leaves behind a brother and sister-in-law Clifton Thomas Speed and Donna Casey Speed of Greensburg, Louisiana, and a niece and nephew Dianne Speed and Clifton Speed of Hammond, Louisiana. Funeral Arrangement will be held on Saturday the 8th of March at First Baptist Church Greensburg, Louisiana. Visitation at the church will be from 8 Am to 11Am. Memorial Service will follow from 11 AM to 12 Noon. Disposition of body will be cremation. In lieu of flowers the immediate family asks that donations be made in my husband's memory to either the American Cancer Society or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Houston, Texas. The family wishes to thank the ICU Nurses Doctors, and Stem Cell Transplant team for the compassionate care of our loved one. The family also wishes thank Mayor Jimmy Durban and staff of Denham Springs City Hall for all the support and kind gestures during Clarence's illness.
