I was saddened by the news of the passing of Chris. Chris was such a kind soul, who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. First and foremost, I have always admired and respected Chris for the unconditional love that she had for her daughters and her parents. Chris was a wonderful lady and a great neighbor and friend to me. Her generous laugh and sense of humor, was matched by her generous heart. I would sometimes "pop in", 2 or 3 times a day, as her presence and hospitality was always warm and comforting and welcoming. We had many good times together, She was one of the brightest people I ever knew, and we had many humorous, interesting and intellectual conversations on many subjects. Sandy and Marcia....how many wonderful memeories do I have around the famous table....making Chris coffee, doing GIRL GOSSIP with DONNA and making cookie dough and just eating it out of the bowl. Chris and I had 2 incredible grandchildren in common - Zoe and Zack Schlanger. She was truly a bright, delightful and stunning woman!

When I first met Chris in 1964, I thought I would never measure up as a daughter-in-law ~ ~ she set such a high standard in the Manning family. And I never got over that feeling. To this day I still regard her as my model sister-in-law, a person whose beauty, charm, wit, and brilliance I will always admire.

Chris was such a huge presence in my life and the lives of those around her -- I have always wished I could recreate the warm, relaxed atmosphere that all her family and guests found around her round dining table and I am STILL trying (unsuccessfully, as I have been for 30 years) to match the flavor and tenderness of her pork chops and gravy.
