Funeral services for Clark Sample, Jr., 79, a longtime Longview oil and gas operator and businessman will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 29, 2010 at The First Presbyterian Church of Longview with the Rev. Jonathan Jehorek and Rev. Bill O' Neal officiating, assisted by Clark S. Sample, a grandson, under direction of Rader Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held prior to the funeral service. Mr. Sample was born May 26, 1931 in El Dorado, Arkansas. He was the first of two children born to Clark Sample and Gladys Olvey Sample of Longview, Texas. Mr. Sample graduated from Longview High School in 1948. He attended Kemper Military Academy in Booneville, Missouri, Texas Tech University and Kilgore Junior College. He worked several years with his grandfather, Mr. John Olvey, in Tallulah, Louisiana, before joining his father in the oil and gas business in Longview. Mr. Sample served as a deacon and elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Longview. He was a board member of Longview Bank and Trust, Longview National Bank and Texas Commerce Bank of Longview. Mr. Sample is survived by his wife of sixty years, Frances Hudson Sample, and their four children, Carol Sample of Longview, Don Sample, and his wife Donna of Houston, Susan Sample Wallace, and her husband Jim, of Longview, and Robert Sample and his wife, Molly of Houston, his sister Sally Sample Graves, and husband Dr. Ghent Graves, of Ingram, Texas, his nephew Clark Graves and niece Catherine Graves Reichert, both of Austin, and by his nine grandchildren whom brought him much joy and amusement: Carson Sample, Clark S. Sample, Allison Sample, Stephen Sample, Adam Graham, Michael Graham, Connor Graham, Katherine Graham and Teresa Sample. Memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church of Longview or the charity of your choice.
