CLAUDE KEENER Obituary
CLAUDE E. KEENER, JR.
Beloved husband, father and friend, Claude E. Keener, Jr., 61, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 5, 2015. Claude was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Bess Keener. He is survived by the family he loved: his wife Nancy of 33 years, two daughters Katherine Sear and Jennifer Steinhoff, their spouses, as well as his grandson, Eric Sear. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, and a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 11, both at Memorial Baptist Church in Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Baptist Church Mission Fund or the Catalogue for Philanthropy. www.murphyfuneralhomes.com

My heart is heavy tonight as I learned of the sadness in the wonderful Keener family whom I met when I had the privilege of being Katie K.'s third grade teacher. That was the way she always signed her name even on Claude's Father's Day card! I remember Claude with a twinkle in his eye and an obvious love of his family. You Nancy, Jennie and Katie have a special angel watching you with pride.

It was my great privilege to call Claude my friend dating back to our years in college. He was extraordinarily gifted with intelligence and athletic ability that went hand in hand with a knack for fitting in well in any situation be it social or professional. What I will remember most, though, was his great sense of humor and fun-loving personality. Time spent with Nancy and Claude was always special for the great fun and joy they had being together. Claude's life was a success in every way imaginable, at home or in the world of business. Yet, it was his way of bringing a ray of sunshine and levity into any situation that I will miss the most. He was a wonderful man.
