The Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, Inc., announces with deepest sympathy the transition of Mrs. Claudette Matthews Daffin.
Mrs. Daffin maintained loving relationships with her step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Additionally, there are a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and caring friends whom she held in high esteem and the love was reciprocated.
Upon graduation from Central High School, she went on to attend the Alabama State Teacher’s College Mobile Branch and Alabama State College. While matriculating, she was initiated into the Beta Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in 1956. She would move to California shortly after graduation to continue her education, work and live for a number of years. During this time Mrs. Daffin earned a Master’s Degree from Pepperdine University.
Mrs. Daffin was a lifelong educator having taught in California and in the Mobile County Public School System before retiring as an elementary school principal. The impact of her caring demeanor and patience was evidenced through many of her former students and colleagues who sustained decades long relationships with her.
Following her move back home to Mobile, Mrs. Daffin affiliated with Bethel AME Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Delta Theta Omega Chapter where she served in various capacities in both. At Bethel, she was a multi year member of the Trustee Board, the Henrietta Cheatham Missionary Society, J T L Dandrige Board, a Sunday School teacher, and a choir member. In Delta Theta Omega, she used her talents in many areas too numerous to name, but to mention a few On-Track Program, Regional Awards preparation, and the Membership Committee.
In addition to her church and sorority she regularly participated with the Retired Teachers Association and The Ladies of Leisure Club. An avid decorator, whom loved crafting, shopping and entertaining, she will be greatly missed.
