Not sure what to say?

Claudia and I shared a bedroom from the time I was born until she left to go to Yale. During the years when we shared a bedroom in the house onWinton Road I woke up one night because she was talking. She recited the entire Robert Frost poem "The Road Not taken" and when she finished I commented that I liked that poem very much. She did not respond. I looked at her more closely and realized that she was asleep. She recited that entire poem, perfectly, in her sleep. Then she went on to...

Claudia and I shared a bedroom for many years. One night when we were both in our teens I was wakened by her voice. She was reciting a poem written by Robert Frost: "The Road Not Taken". When she finished I made a comment, but she did not respond. I looked at her and realized that she was asleep. She had recited that poem, perfectly, in her sleep. And then she went on to live that poem.

Claudia was a formidable intellect and a wonderfully bright spirit. Nothing was better than discovering that you were seated next to Claudia at dinner. It meant an evening ahead of surprising information, warm conversation, and lasting memories. Claudia, you will be missed by all who respected your ideas, your determination to find the truth, and your warmth and goodness. Betsy McCaughey

This is sad news. Claudia was a great journalist and a wonderful person. Condolences to her family and many friends.

I send my love to the huisband and family of Claudia. She was a dear friend in my very young youth in Rotterdam. My prayers are for you, that God will comfort you.

We will forever remember Claudia's spirit (both congenial and fearless), her amazing intellect, and her curiosity. Sitting on the porch as we assessed both the lake-front and the world overall, Elaine and I enjoyed every minute of our time with Claudia and my dear friend Tim (who saved my life in Iraq). Whether it was listening to her recite poetry or simply riding shot-gun as we cruised across Keuka Lake, we never had to search for a reason to smile. Our relaxed bodies were betrayed by...

Dearest Claudia, I vividly remember the call I received from you the night of June 4th from Beijing, with skids of machine gun shooting in the back ground, asking for my husband. But he was in China as well. Since the review of the "Son of the Revolution ", you both had been working on so many ideas together for so many years, never waver in your faith and belief! Never submit to evil, lies or political correctness! Bravery and honesty are your greatest qualities both intellectually and in...

Oh, no, no, no. Claudia started our Tolkien book club so many years ago ... She was a wonderful friend and inspiring colleague. This is so hard. Sending love and hugs to Martha. I wish there were something I could do to help. RIP and know you were very, very special.
