Cleveland "Bill" Payne

Mr. Cleveland "Bill" Payne, 62, of 744 Truett Avenue, husband of Diane Booker Payne, passed away February 17, 2016 at his home. He was born in Greenwood County April 16, 1953, a son of the late Rosetta Payne and Witt Quarles. He was a member of Second Damascus Baptist Church and formerly employed with Greenwood Packing Plant. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Shirley Nance, Sennie Thomas and Wilhelmenia Brown and 3 brothers, Julian, Earnest and Jimmy Lee Payne. Surviving are seven sisters, Charlie (George) Higgins, Ellen Quarles, JoAnn Freeman, Rosa (Clyde) Marshall, Brenda Payne and Elaine Lyons, all of Greenwood, SC, and Rev. H.L. Carother of Charlotte, NC; three brothers, John Robert Payne of Greenwood, SC, Andrew Quarles and Vandor Quarles of Charlotte, NC; a special cousin, Julia (Curtis) Carter; a close nephew, Willie Freeman; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Second Damascus Baptist Church, with Rev. Leroy Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews. Flower bearers will be nieces. Mr. Payne will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.percivaltompkinsfh.com.
