Cleveland Williams passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2016 at the age of 93. He attended high school at Xavier Prep where he excelled in track and field. After graduation, he received a scholarship to Xavier University for (2) years. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp for a period of (3) years. He received a Certificate of Recognition United States Congress, Congressional Gold Medal relating to Montford Point Marine Association, Inc. Upon completion, he received a degree in Journalism from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. Member of Beta Tau Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Cleveland began working as a reporter for a newspaper located in Bastrop, Louisiana and returned to New Orleans as a newsman for the Louisiana Weekly Newspaper, writing front page stories. After leaving the newspaper business, Cleveland became employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years before retiring. He was the beloved husband of Mossie Rea Brown Williams for 62 years. Son of the late Arthur and Mattie Bell Williams. He was the loving father of Mossialand Alexander-Evans (Willie), Shelia Taylor Degree (Wilbert), the late Caroland Williams Randall ( Ricky), and the late Donald Ray Queary. Grandfather of Erica Davis, Milton Cleveland Turner, Donna Zachery, Candace Taylor, Ricky Randall Jr., Margaret Randall and (7) great-grandchildren. He was a native New Orleanian and a resident of Marrero, LA. for 58 years. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Charles Simonson M.D., Progressive Home Health Care and Heart of Hospice. Relatives, friends, employees of Jefferson Parish School System, members of Second Highway Baptist Church, and Household Faith Ministries are invited to attend the Visitation on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Rock of Ages Baptist Church, 6533 Acres Road, Marrero, Louisiana from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 am. Rev. Lawrence Williams Jr. Officiating. Interment Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery- Slidell, Louisiana. I am so sorry for your loss but God knows best. I feel that I again have suffered a severe loss also. My family and I are a part of your family always attached at the hip and bonded in christianity. He is the last from the Wilson Settlement but the blood still runs warm and deep. We love you and will always be just a phone call away. My heart is heavy now, my mom, dad,Carol and,and Cleveland are all visiting and watching over us now and forever.
