Mickey met Cliff and Eva in 1992 on a cultural exchange trip to Mexico. He was a gifted water colorist and patiently taught the older Mexican kids his art. He created many wonderful paintings of Mexican scenes that he felt were below his standards and was planning to destroy upon returning to the U.S. Thankfully, he mentioned this to the rest of the group and the paintings found new homes immediately!! We have one of Lolita's backyard and it is a perfect remembrance of our life there....

Mr. Matousek was my geometry teacher. I remember him well. He was so proud of his ability to draw a nearly perfect circle! He was a great teacher. Most of the others paled in comparison.

Carolyn (Rasmussen) Grill, Wilson '75

Eva, my heart goes out to you. Cliff was the best teacher because he would work with us to achieve more than we knew we were capable of doing. He instilled in us all such a love of music and therefore a gift he gave to the world.

I am so sad to hear this news. He was such a wonderful choir teacher to so many of us as well as a wonderful example to each of us. He instilled confidence in many of us who didn't have much confidence from other sources. I am so sorry for your loss. I pray a chorus of angels is singing their hearts out for him now.

Eileen Doern Tellefson, former student at Wilson

Cliff Matousek is remembered as a wonderful teacher and colleague. We worked together for a decade at Wilson High School in the 1960s. My memories of Cliff focus on his excellent music and mathematical skills and his deep, beautiful Christian values which were reflected in all of his interactions with students, parents and colleagues. Cliff epitomized for me the ultimate meaning of the term professional excellence. I am a better person for having known Cliff. I am grateful. James Fenwick,...

Eva, I am so sorry for your loss. I know you thought the world of Cliff and he thought the world of you.

Please accept my virtual hug at his service next Saturday, as I won't be able to attend. I wish I could but we are out of town.

Mr. Matousek was far more than a music and math teacher. His values and expectations helped all of us students be better people. Mentors come in many forms, and I'll always recall his influence.

Bill Gellatly (Wilson Class of 1961)

Mr. Matousek was my music teacher at Wilson H.S.
He was a wonderful teacher, and he instilled in me a love of music that has lasted all my life.
