Clifford L. "Pep" Pepper age 75 of 1521 Highway 34, Batavia died at his home Tuesday evening, November 3, 2009. Born March 6, 1934 at Washington, Iowa, the son of C. Howard and Margaret Lundquist Pepper. Pep grew up in the Packwood community and graduated from the Packwood High School in 1952. He married Charlene Fleming on August 1, 1954 at Batavia. They lived most of their married life in the Packwood community before moving West of Fairfield in 1991. Clifford was a retired farmer, and drove for Dickey Transport for many years and was a former inspector for Grinnell Mutual Insurance Company. Pep was a member of the Packwood Christian Church, Clinton Masonic Lodge # 15 of Fairfield and former Richland Lions Club member and was very active in other community activities. He enjoyed music and played in the Ed Brugge Band. He enjoyed traveling and camping and has spent the past 11 winters in Mesa, Arizona. Deceased family members include his parents. Surviving are his wife Charlene, his daughter and her husband Cindy and Bryan McRoy of Bartlett, Tennessee and his son Craig Pepper and his wife Debi of Ankeny, Iowa, plus a niece whom they raised Marcia Fleming of Grimes, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Packwood Christian Church with Pastor Frosty Van Voorst officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday morning from 9:30 until 11:00 A.M. at the church prior to the funeral. Following the funeral, cremation will be accorded and interment in the Packwood Cemetery will be at a later time. A memorial has been established in Clifford's name to the Packwood Christian Church.
