Schmid, Clifford Allen, passed away, Thursday, October 20, 2016 in Naples, FL.
Beloved husband of the late Carol L. Schmid. Dear father of Scott W. (Rhonda L.) Schmid, Kirsten S. (John D.) Wack and Colby A. (Lisa J.) Schmid. Loving grandfather of Andrea, Kit, Katie, Lily, Jessica, Rosie, Ana, Madelyn and Cooper. Dear son of the late Edwin Alexander Schmid and the late Sylvia Schmid (nee: Stevens). Brother of the late Marian Schmid Logan, Edwine Schmid Mill, Helen Schmid Hardy, Alexander Lewis Schmid and Arthur Eugene Stevens Schmid. Brother in law, uncle, cousin and friend to many.
After attending John Burroughs High School, Clifford finished in the top of his class at Amherst College and following graduation, joined the Navy as an Intelligence Officer, finishing his service in the U.S. Naval Reserves in 1965. He was a driven businessman, taking the helm at Chippewa Bank in the early 70's and finally establishing a bank holding company, Financial Bancshares, with his brother, Steve, in 1980. Together, they grew the company to nearly a half billion dollars before selling the firm in 1996. He loved spending time with his family, boating on Lake Michigan and on the Lake of the Ozarks, collecting wonderful cars, spoiling his children and grandchildren, and of course he loved his dogs. His laugh, his wit, his kindness and his perspective will be missed by all.
Services: Funeral service at First Congregational Church of Webster Groves, 10 Lockwood Ave, Friday, 11:00 a.m. Interment PRIVATE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Stray Rescue of St. Louis. Visitation at the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Thursday 4-8 p.m. Friends may sign the family's on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.
